Love this place, Its a perfect spot to meet a couple of friends for lunch. Pros: - Great Menu - Great Service - Incredible Prices Cons - Sushi is good, but nothing to write home about

what to order: lunch or dinner specials tip: good place for a date! I am so surprised Full Moon doesn't have at least 4 stars! I love this place. It is a my go-to bento/sushi deal. My boyfriend doesn't eat raw fish so we compromise here where he can get the specials and I can still order sushi on the side. Their lunch or dinner specials include soup, salad, rice, protein (salmon or chicken) and a side of sushi. Everything is portioned well and I always leave full, satisfied but not too heavy. The service is good, they greet you when you come in like most Japanese places but they don't check on you too much afterwards. They get busy during dinner and lunch time. I'll definitely be back!

This place use to be good but it's gone down hill! Ordered take out sashimi, a spicy tuna roll and 2 healthy rolls. Really disappointed with the size of the sashimi, small and thin squares almost like half the normal size...but they charged me full price for them! Really disappointed..this use to be one of our favorite places for sushi!

Not fantastic but adequate. Nothing special to mention. Still like the restaurant. Service is good.

I'm always up for trying a new sushi spot and I was told that Full Moon was amazing. It didn't disappoint. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and I will definitely be back for more.

Solid choice when you're craving sushi. They've got a good crowd for Thursday night, but it wasn't too packed, and my friend and I were able to be seated right away. Service was good, friendly. We ordered the baked scallop roll, salmon sushi, and various other sushi. All were delicious! And the price is really reasonable, too.

Ate here a few days ago, had the Volcano roll, it was very flavorfull, also had vegetable tempura n soy beans for dessert, hot sake topped off the dinner, reasonable prices friendly staff, no doubt i'll be back.

I had a major craving for a poke bowl but didn't wanna go out to eat so to go seemed like the best option. I was already at south coast so full moon came up on my yelp as the closest. I ordered over the phone. It was a little difficult but at least I got my order in. The restaurant itself is not hard to find and located in a pretty convenient location off harbor. When I got there I found out there was a $10 minimum for cards but the cashier was pretty nice about it and let me use my card anyway since it was my first time there. The poke bowl itself was pretty good, not the best but pretty good! It was a really good price since it was cheaper at lunch plus it comes with miso soup! The bowl could use some more flavor but I would come back again sometime!

If you don't see on menu just ask or go free style. Poke appetizer one of my favorites.

I've been here three times and found the sushi to be fresh and tasty. The place is clean, pleasant, and the staff is helpful. Most importantly, they are consistent with their menu items and the sushi tastes fresh. I will definitely come back to this restaurant.

Great sushi! It's a little small inside but when we went at 5pm on a Thursday there was hardly anyone there. We were greeted as soon as we walked inside. We ordered two ginger salads $1.50 each. The salads were served immediately. The lettuce was crisp. The ginger dressing was light. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, full moon, crunch and an unagi roll with avocado on top. All three rolls tasted very fresh. They have very good prices on their sushi. It's some of the cheapest and honestly the best sushi that I have tried so far since moving to the area. We will be back when the sushi craving hits again!

I love this place because it's good and affordable. Before this one open, I would usually go to their Fountain Valley location. I feel very welcome here. They acknowledge your presence as you enter and when you leave. The sushi bar chefs will greet you in Japanese. It's very nice... not all sushi restaurants does this. I usually order the lunch or dinner special with California Roll, teriyaki chicken, salad, rice, and miso soup. It's about 6-7bucks. I would usually ask to substitute the rice bowl for more salad. I love their full moon special roll and their jalapeño roll. I usually get their calamari appetizer as well. I love the service. It taste great. They are usually busy and the food is always fresh. I can come here by myself and feel comfortable because I am welcome. It's a very casual atmosphere. I can eat here everyday!!!

If there's one thing I truly did like about this sushi place, it was the service. The sushi chefs were genuinely friendly and would help you make a decision if you were in need of one. There are better and worse sushi places, but if you're in the area for a quick lunch break, you're in the right place.

My friend and I had sushi here at the bar and it was probably the worst experience I've had eating at a Japanese restaurant. 15 minutes after I left, I experienced diarrhea. I eat sushi almost twice a week and have never had this happen before. Scary!

  • Ed A.

Good clean and friendly staff! Stop by with my wife Sunday around 5:00 and had a cucumber special roll, volcano roll with scalps & shrimp Tempura! All goods and seems fresh. Marco was our chef at bar and did a good job.

  • Angela B.

I'd give this place four stars except the menu is extremely limited. Add a few more options to the menu, and this place would really shine. Note that the things I did have were tasty, fresh, and pretty well prepared.

I guess FM is considered our neighborhood sushi joint where we will stop in on a lazy weeknight for decent priced sushi. It's not the best of the best but it does the job when sushi cravings hit. On our most recent visit, I got the poke ($9.50) and it was fantastic! The fish was fresh and flavorful on top of a LOT rice - I had a salmon skin hand roll before the bowl and had to elect the BF's help to finish. Overall, I think as far as value goes, this poke is the best in town; although, I will ask for more green onions next time. Thumbs up for good priced good sushi!

First impressions are so important and Full Moon you completely missed the mark! Firstly no greeting or welcome to our restaurant, it was more of a "what do you want?" followed by a slamming down of the menu! I went for my usual order and custom ordered it with no cucumber or avocado. The order came to $6 and I handed him my debit card, he proceeded to say ugh really loudly and that he would do it this one time but next time order has to be over $10. I agreed, he gave me my receipt with the tip part circled in red! How rude?! I tipped anyway! He then handed me my order and I asked for some spicy mayo to which he said 50 cents. I told him I don't have cash and considering I tipped $2 I should be entitled to a small cup of spicy mayo. He then grabbed a spoonful of regular mayo and squirted some siracha in there not mixed and handed it to me making all these noises like I was causing him such an inconvenience. The other patrons were even looking at me, very uncomfortable. Finally, to top it all off I got back to the office, they screwed up my order and gave me no utensils. I will never be back here! Their service is atrocious!

Always fun and good times here. Sit at the sushi bar and meet the chefs. Hector is the best! He is friendly and happy to answer any questions or refer some awesome sushi dishes! awesome tip: Poke bowls available and Mochi for dessert overALL: Full moon rises to the top. Good times and worth a try.

Our favorite sushi place! Food is great and the staff is super friendly. Poke bowl and Volcano Rolls are the best! I find myself craving them all the time.

  • Regina O.

Been here two times and both were good experiences. The prices are very reasonable which is a plus. My boyfriend and I usually order two rolls and a dinner combo. Today we had the volcano rol, baked salmon roll & beef teriyaki combo with spicy tuna roll. The volcano roll is one of my favs. Its so warm and the flavors go good together. The baked salmon roll was okay. I think I prefer the hawaiian roll over this one. (I had that one my first time here) The beef teriyaki is okay. The meat is very thinly sliced. And its not much portion wise. Came with miso soup, salad, and rice. I'd come here for the rolls. Service is very attentive and I always get seated pretty quickly.

OH SO VERY UTTERLY DISAPPOINTING IS ALL HAVE TO SAY. I love sushi but this place is so gross and bland! And horrible service I would never eat this again not even if I were paid to eat it.

  • Merrill M.

We've been going to Full Moon for a while even with the change. The sushi is still on point and fresh. I love their Poke Bowl and its the closest one to me so its perfect. My kids love their crunch rolls and literally eat 3 orders that's almost 24 rolls for 6 kids. Service is always great and it can get pretty busy but they handle it well. A great little place. Try it out!!

  • Xavier F.

My go-to spot if i cant think of anything else to eat. Couple things that i like: They happily greet you with a loud bellow of something in Japanese that sounds like, "hay-shamas-te!" They got them bomb rolls and quality fish. If youre having trouble on what to get, order the FULL MOON ROLL. You wont be disappointed. Also, check out their specials located on the chalkboard behind the chef or along the walls of the restaurant. Some of the really delicious creations can be found there.

Had the El jalapeño and spicy tuna roll with a ginger Salad. I loved it. The fish was spicy and fresh and the ginger dressing in the salad was amazing absolutely fantastic. Severs where nice and quick even tho we sat at the sushi bar. Highly recommend it.

Incredible lunch meal deals you can't beat! My usual is the chicken teriyaki with a California roll. The meal comes with salad, soup, rice. BTW the staff are very friendly and overall makes for a great experience.

This place is okay. It has a decent amount of seating for the size of the space they have. The servers are always nice and can keep their composure when things get hectic. They also have a donation area by the door as soon as you walk in for some of the issues that are happening in Japan right now. That's really sweet and shows that they care about their community. My favorite thing on the menu is the ahi poke bowl. It has a lot of flavor with all the spices that go into it. You also can't get a poke bowl at any sushi place, so it's nice to have the option of ordering one here. Sadly, there's not really much on the menu to choose from which is a HUGE disappointment because they're owned by the same company that owns Maru Sushi (which has way more variety on their menu) and is right down the street @ Harbor Blvd & Adams Ave. They also don't have descriptions for the rolls they have on their menu so you never know what you're really going to get. This place is just blah. It's okay, not bad, but not great.

    (3)
  • Jennifer L.

Staff was nice and inviting Rolls were reasonably priced and good I have no complaints. Nothing that really stood out; ok I take it back. Their healthy full moon roll was pretty freakin spectacular - good. And the salad & chicken teriyaki was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Would come here again & if I lived in the area, I would make it my sushi spot.

My wife and I usually visit the Tustin Full Moon but this night we were in the area and decided to get some sushi before our movie. Great service and quality. Love the energy of the sushi chefs, not sure I like sushi restaurants that don't greet you as you walk in or the chefs aren't taking shots with fellow patrons at the bar! We ordered the Hawaiian roll, yellowtail garlic roll, and baked scallop. I was in the mood for some tempura udon and it hit the spot! All dishes were fantastic. We will definitely be coming back for more.

I like this place! Very convenient for my lunch time that matches my school schedule ! The rolls are so tasty and also tasty for the eyes too. I love the baked salmon roll so much, I usually order that one or any combo which have everything for you such as roll, salad, miso soup, and any appetizer. The service sometimes they don't notice you much but they are very friendly and trying to help you out.

My favorite sushi restaurant. Hector makes the best rolls in town. My wife and I go once a week and they always make us feel welcome and hector remembers our orders and our special requests. Everything is great and fresh but I especially like their albacore lovers roll, the poke, and the Hawaiian roll.

I have been frequenting Full Moon since it first opened it's HB/FV location. This Costa Mesa location is much closer to where i work and live now, so this is the location i frequent these. I have a very soft spot in my heart for Full Moon because it is very good sushi for a very reasonable price. You truly can not go wrong by eating here as everything is pretty good. My favorites: Salmon Sushi Spicy Tuna Handroll Soft Shell Crab (Spider) Handroll Hawaiian Roll- It's pretty much salmon/Tuna poke on a CA roll Volcano Roll- CA roll baked with Sriracha sauce, onions, scallops and mayo. Served with eel sauce and dried bonito shavings on top. Jalapeno Yellowtail Roll/Sushi- The roll is served on CA roll with poke sauce and green onions Baked Scallop- Baked with scallops, onion, crab-meat and mayo on a thin bed of sushi rice. Served with smelt eggs and eel sauce on top. Highly recommended. Miso Soup I highly recommend this restaurant to novice sushi lovers and the experts as well! ***** (5 Stars)- Amazing, zero flaws, a must go! (Not given often) **** (4 Stars)- Memorable, strongly feel you should visit *** (3 Stars)- Above average, worth a visit ** (2 Stars)- Average, some pro's and some con's * (1 Star)- Opinion is do not go, below average

My go-to for good and reasonable Japanese food. I was a regular at the Fountain Valley branch and was psyched when they opened a branch closer to home. Here's what I get when I'm here: 1. POKE BOWL---A must! Fresh cuts of raw fish seasoned to perfection and served on a bed of rice. Never fails to satisfy! $8.50 yelp.com/biz_photos/full… 2. VOLCANO ROLL---My favorite roll to order here. Baked scallop roll with mayo and some special sauce topped with shaved bonito flakes. Delicious! $7.50 yelp.com/biz_photos/full… 3. UNI---Always fresh! $12.50 4. KATSU DON---Pork cutlet bowl steamed with egg, rice, onions, and Japanese soy sauce. The whole fam loves this dish. $6.50 5. CRUNCHY ROLL---A favorite of my daughter's. Sprinkled with tempura flakes, the roll is not completely deep fried so it isn't greasy. $6.50 yelp.com/biz_photos/full… The garlic albacore roll seems to be popular here, too but I have yet to try it. Chefs and servers are really nice and friendly. Wonderful service! I always leave this place happy and satisfied :) Solid 4 stars!

I like the El Jalapeño, Baked Salmon roll, Baked Scallop, and Ahi Poke bowl! I am not a huge Sushi fan, but what I've eaten here is really fresh and delicious. Everyone else I've brought here enjoys the food too. 3 Stars for Ambiance (It's not a very cozy feeling for a sit-down restaurant so I usually take it to go) and 5 Stars for food!!!

We just moved here and this place is right around the corner. We always order take out about once a week and always get the special rolls. They are fair priced and the fish has always been fresh.

  • Danny C.

Very affordable sushi but really good too! They have a few items you dont normally see on a menu like ONO and albacore belly seared. I love this place, and I come here anytime I'm in the area.

Full Moon is oftentimes our office's lunch spot on Saturdays. They cater to the American palate, providing plenty of rolls, nigiri, appetizers, bento boxes, etc. We usually stick to the edamame, poke bowl, volcano roll, full moon roll, albacore garlic roll, jalapeno lovers roll, and gyoza. The appetizers are pretty standard. Lightly salted edamame and gyoza are solid starters to keep us content. The sushi rolls are also fairly average as well. Their rice doesn't contain enough rice vingar so they're not bound very well, resulting in crumbly rolls. However, the fish is typically fresh so that's a plus. Their poke bowls are pretty delicious! Freshly marinated salmon and tuna topped with sesame seeds, green onions, and masago for texture over a huge bed of sushi rice. This is a meal in itself. The quality of the sushi varies from time to time but they're efficient, accurate, and satisfies our sushi craving during our Saturday lunch hour.

Full Moon Sushi boasts quick and friendly service with a large variety of "Americanized" rolls and dishes. We ordered: the poke bowl- big enough to share. I love that they add diced cucumber for a change of texture. Healthy full moon roll- I'm not a fan of soy paper, but this was recommended as one of the most popular rolls, so I decided to give it a try. The roll itself is good, lots of fish inside. Overall it was a quick lunch, and after a long day at the beach, this definitely hit the spot.

Food is great, only issue is they mixed up my order and tried to over charge me when I didn't receive 2 items I ordered. When I let them know they fixed bill but gave attitude.

  • Isaac A.

Such a hard place to review.. Everything to me was really mediocre, Sever was really nice and attentive. Always a plus... But the sushi was a little under par. at least for me. Kinda reminded me of the lunches in those revolving glass cases. lol

  • Joseph P.

POKE BOWL The Best and most simple dish ever. Fish, rice, and perfect seasoning. I don't order anything else. Only Poke Bowl. Don't mess with perfection. Full Moon's Poke Bowl is the best deal in Costa Mesa, Hence why I keep going back.

  • Kris C.

Full Moon is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. They have very affordable prices for good quality sushi. Come in for lunch and get their poke bowl its only $8.50 and they load it up with fish! Not only does Full Moon have a great poke bowl they also have great rolls that are also very affordable. Lastly the staff at Full Moon is very accommodating and friendly. If you are in the Costa Mesa area I highly recommend you give this place a try!

This place is SO GOOD. I ALWAYS get the Healthy Full Moon Roll. It is SO good. They have a nice outdoor patio and I come often with a friend and our dogs. The staff is always so nice to our dogs too! LOVE this place!

  • Ryan C.

I can't express in words how much I love coming here. They greet you every time, which is very important. I've been other sushi places where you stand around until you make an effort to get someone's attention. Not here. Speaking from experience, they have INCREDIBLE fish. My go to here is the poke bowl. Extremely filling for a great price. They have some pretty interesting and more importantly, delicious rolls. It's a tiny little place and isn't really upscale, which helps the prices. But man, do they have some fresh fish. I'm here once a week.

    (5)
  • Tina M.

Been to this place several times so I figured if give it a review finally. The service is decent at best, and the food is alright. It's an option for lunch. But there are better options for sushi in the area. I came in today for my lunch and ordered it for take out and it literally took 30 mins of my lunch to wait for the food. I inquired on the wait time and they kept saying five mins. the service has seriously fallen after the girl server left. The guys here are rude and lag everything.

  • sabrah b.

Poke Bowl, Edamame, and Beer!! Umai!! It's no high end sushi place, just a well kept chain with a few well prepared classics. It's a sit down with a nice sushi bar and table seating. I would recommend eating there rather than take away. The staff is really nice, friendly, and actually quite funny. I also like the clean white and black decor. Great for locals, its a reasonably priced, quick sushi fix (tuna in my case!)

    (4)
  • Kelli G.

This place is great. Prices are so reasonable. I love sitting at the sushi bar here. Hector is so much fun! Buy the guys a beer & relax! Order the bellies (salmon, albacore & yellowtail) then dive into an el jalapeño, baked scallop & some rolls. And you won't break the bank!

  • Liz N.

First I'd like to start off that service is VERY friendly and welcoming!!!!! I came here one night craving for poke bowl! I thought their fish tasted ok. Their portions however are massive!!! If ur looking for something to fill u up this is it! Oh and it also comes with a free miso soup!

  • Susanne M.

Very fresh, my whole lunch wAs only $6.50, soup, salad, tempura with 2 shrimp and 8 pieces of California Roll. Great deal and fresh!!! Worth the try but the inside is kind of a dive.

Was a total sausage fest in there. No ladies at all working there. Sushi was expensive and the mochi sucked. Had a volcano roll -- maybe the reviews I read beforehand over-hyped it for me. I wasn't as impressed as everyone else was.

    (2)
  • Derek E.

I've been coming here for years. It has really good prices. It's a place where I go to get cheap sushi with good portions. I either go to the Costa Mesa or fountain valley. Ask if they have yellow tail rib. It's sooo good. Best shrimp boats too.

The experience overall was just terrible. Although I was promptly seated and given a menu, the time between that and when I was given an opportunity to order was near 15 mins, despite there being only two other parties in the restaurant. The server had a very thick Japanese accent and was difficult to communicate with. I ordered miso soup, fried squid appetizer, crunch roll, lobster roll, spicy jalapeno roll, and octopus rolls. The soup was bland, with no additional seasoning and two small pieces of tofu. The squid appetizer was ok, but not cooked long enough for the tempura to get crunchy. Very soggy and not much flavor. The lobster roll was terrible. Obviously old lobster was rubbery and had absolutely NO flavor whatsoever. The octopus roll was chewy and flavorless. The spicy jalapeno roll was anything but. The jalapenos were old and dried out. The only thing that actually tasted good was the crunch roll. It was still evident that the fish was old, but the roll overall was palatable When finished I pushed my plates away from me to signal the server for my check, she never came. I asked another employee if I could have my check. He disappeared, and still no check. After waiting about 20 mins, one of the employees who was having a lunch break (quite possibly a manager) took the server aside and said "That party has been waiting too long! Get them the check!" After which I was given the check. I paid and left without gratuity. I will never return. I have no idea if those reviewing this establishment as great have just never had good sushi or are being paid to review it. I cannot see why anyone would want to come here. Terrible service and poor food. Avoid this place.

  • Barry P.

I came here a few nights ago for the first time, and it was lousy. The service was super fast and I will say somewhat friendly ... their prices aren't bad, either. But with sushi you do get what you pay for. And this was mediocre. I had a $7 or $8 fish roll that was almost all "krab." Also had edamame, which was cold and not a bright green ... should've been thrown out. Did pork gyoza as well, which was average. The sauce tasted expired. Bad lighting, too. Not coming back unless I'm desperate.

  • Miron L.

This place is a good lunch option if you work in the area. The sushi is decent, inexpensive, and served quickly. If you're craving sushi for lunch - it satisfies. That said, there are some much better options in the area with higher quality sushi. So it's not too often that Full Moon gets into the rotation.

Excellent sushi and great service!! My boyfriend and I love trying new sushi places and this is one we will definitely frequent! The baked scallop was amazing! We sat at the sushi bar and got great service. Everyone was very friendly!

  • Nicole E.

Full moon is definitely one of my fave sushi joints around oc. It really is all about the Poke salad. Their rolls are great, good size; they don't give you some itty bitty little rolls like I've seen at some places that leave you wanting more. The cuts of sushi are great too, I can always count on the salmon to have that perfect, fresh, buttery flavor to it. And thick cut too! The udon soup is also really good here, they have good combos. I love this place! HB location is great too!!

    (5)
  • Monique W.

I could go to this place every single night. The sushi is so fresh and delicious, and the prices are great. Pretty casual environment which is nice and low key for delicious food. I order the same thing every time, hawaiian roll, cucumber special, crunch, and you MUST try their SHRIMP BOAT! AMAZING!

  • Faye G.

Thank you, Full Moon! You have fulfilled my craving for Poke! I didn't realize how difficult it would be to get Poke in the Costa Mesa/Santa Ana area. It was no where to be found unless I went to Bristol Farms or Bear Flag (both options way too far). I'm so so glad I came across Full Moon because their Poke Bowl has been my go-to lunch as of late. It's filling, super fresh & is amazing with an extra side of avocado. The poke sauce is just right & they put the perfect amount of green onions in it. Surprisingly, the miso soup that comes with the meal is actually really really good. I used to work in a sushi restaurant and can tell when miso soup is homemade---Full Moon's definitely is. I ordered their Hawaiian roll once (California roll topped with Poke), but wasn't too impressed. Seriously, the Poke Bowl is where it's at. Such a steal for only 7 bucks! Believe the reviews and get it!

I love full moon sushi !! I work in the area and it's a quick and cheap lunch. The employees are always really sweet and fast. I've never ate there I always order to go and my food is always ready. The chicken teriyaki is good and the sashimi is very good too. I've never had a bad experience here. If your ordering lunch and craving sushi this is the place to go!!!

  • Brendan K.

Full Moon Sushi is my standard "any time" affordable sushi joint Quality is generally above average - fresh fish, nice size cuts. Seaweed salad is a generous portion for the price. Love the Albacore Garlic roll. Have not had a single "bad" item or "off" flavor in at least 10 visits, and having tried most items.

    (4)

love the california role don't trip on price it's a low tole minimum 10$ on a card for some might get hard but i don't trip and for them i'll leave a tip

The sushi is good, resonable prices, friendly service. They don't have lots of signature rolls but they couple that they have are pretty good.

I'm still new at Sushi but so far I like this place the most. My friends have told me that others are better but this place works for me. Reasonable priced (although it's easy to overspend) and delicious food.

We were at the book store and feeling hungry. Read a few of the reviews here and decided to see for ourselves. Ordered a tempura bowl, chicken bowl and the CA roll, the two bowl meals come with miso soup. Basics that are common, which should be easy to prepare and an indicator of other menu items. The miso is basic, not fantastically great nor horrible, some places are to dense-salty while others are watered down. Passing here. The chicken bowl, cooked properly but the chicken is bland, it's missing something. The sauce was acceptable. The tempura bowl was cooked nicely, the battering and vegetables were spot on. The shrimp taste was so-so, it almost seemed that it had been aging because it just hints at being to "ripe". The veggies were thumb up. The tempura sauce was right. The CA roll, being a basic, this one didn't deliver. The rice was bland, crab very light tasting and a small smear of avocado. It was well rolled but beyond the looks, the taste was disappointing. What strikes me is the use of long grain rice in the bowl meals which hit as acceptable in terms of texture and firmness. We don't grumble about mixing types of rice since the textures can be interesting but when seeking a Japanese prepared food, traditionally it is short grain. Price are affordable so balancing that, it is on par for what is paid. Service was good during our visit. Place was clean, no off smells and in general properly maintained from a diners view. Would we go back, not likely.

Once you have their poke bowl, you'll be hooked for life! The first time I came here, I tried a bunch of different rolls. They were all ok, nothing special. I used to get my sushi fix from a place in Walnut (30 miles away from where I live) and was trying to find a more local place. The service was bad but I let it slide because they were really busy that night. They also messed up on my order twice and didn't apologize or offer any sort of compensation for their mistakes. I decided after that night that I was doomed to have to make a trip to Walnut whenever I craved sushi because I couldn't find any place near home that could compare. I decided to try this place again after being too lazy to drive to my usual sushi place and ordered a poke bowl because other reviewers on here raved about it. Not knowing how big it was, I also ordered a roll just in case I'd still be hungry. After my first bite from the poke bowl, I knew I would never be able to eat at any other sushi place again. It was the BEST thing I've ever tasted and the portion was large enough for me to have leftovers to enjoy again later. I've also gotten my husband hooked as well as his sister, who now drives out from West Covina just to fulfill her poke cravings. The miso soup that comes with it is also really good (but it's usually just warm rather than hot). I'm pregnant now and can't eat the poke bowl but I crave it everyday. And whenever I do come here to eat, it's torture watching my husband and sister-in-law enjoying their bowls without me. I'm also contemplating not breast-feeding after I have the baby just so I can enjoy eating it again. My husband lets me eat some of his rice with the poke sauce on it and it's good enough for me. I wonder if I can just order a bowl of rice with poke sauce...

The plan was to meet my parents tonight at Taka Sushi. Little did we know Taka is closed on Sunday. After quickly consulting the Yelp iPhone app (love it!) and calling a few places, we found that Full Moon only a few blocks away was open. We weren't expecting much by the looks of the menu. But what a pleasant surprise! Everything tasted fresh, the service was very good, and we left full and happy. What did we have? Let's see...poke salad, tofu salad, two orders of steamed shrimp dumplings, shrimp and vegetable tempura, two orders each of salmon, tuna tataki, red snapper, yellowtail, and giant scallop sushi, crunchy roll, spicy tuna roll, and spider roll. It was a lot of food. The price for everything? $75 for four people before tip! Amazing...we could easily spend that much for 2 people when we go out for sushi. The highlights for me were the tuna tataki and giant scallop, and really everything was tasty. I wouldn't mind coming back again! Solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for the friendly service.

For those that follow (or even bother to read =] ) my reviews, I am pretty much a purist when it comes to sushi. I like nice, clean, sushi joints with the freshest ingredients. I typically dislike..... dispise sushi joints with all these f'in rolls all over the place because it really isn't sushi by definition. You hardly ever see rolls in sushi joints in Japan and if you do, they most likely run by non-Japanese. Even though Full Moon falls under this category, I have to admit... I kinda like it. Full Moon is a fairly recent run on trying to commercialize sushi bars. They have a few locations throughout OC and it almost looks like they might even be independently owned franchises. I have been the other location in Tustin and the experiences are quite different. The Tustin location has most of a "rustic" old world Japanese sushi bar feel to it while this Santa Ana location has a more modern small sushi bar with the standard OC feel to it. I tried a variety of your standard pieces of nigiri which were fresh and average in quality. Since they aren't the traditional sushi joint, I had to try some of their rolls. I opted for the yellowtail jalapeno roll and the dynamite roll which is a baked scallop roll with Japanese mayo. That dynamite roll was pretty f'in good. Overall, not bad. I enjoyed this Full Moon location for different reasons, but both I think are great and each of them should offer what you are looking for in a sushi bar. 4 star!

Have I had better sushi? Yes. But, for the price, this place cannot be beat. I give it five stars for several reasons. 1) Friendly and fast service; 2) As I've stated, the sushi is above average, and very well priced; 3) The Full Moon Roll (pure bliss...I could eat 10); 4) Location (easy in and out, good parking). All in all, this is a solid sushi joint. It's not the most fancy, and their fish is probably 7 to 8 out of 10 (I've had some 10's, and this ain't it), but it is well run, convenient, and delicious. If you're in the area, and need a sushi fix, you can't lose with Full Moon.

My best friend and I went to Full Moon tonight for dinner. We walked in and were barely greeted by the staff or sushi makers behind the bar. We sat ourselves hesitantly, while wondering if someone was going to seat us, or if it was seat our selves only? Then, we waited at the table we chose for a few minutes before someone approached us and asked for our drink order. It took another 15 minutes to take our food order! We only wanted to order 2 rolls and an appetizer and decided on what we wanted 2 minutes after our drinks came. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer. They were soft, border line soggy, and the basket it came in wasn't half full. Our rolls took FOREVER to get to us. People who were sat after us even received their order before ours got to our table. We found out one of the waiters took our order to the wrong table. The table eventually ate it without realizing. I ordered the baked salmon roll - it was just ok, and smaller than I thought it would be. My friend got the Crunchy Roll, which looked decent. Service was veryyyy slow and did not pay much attention to our table. Our drinks were filled once, at the end of our meal. Reasonable prices, but there are def better sushi places out there...........

I was pleasantly suprised with Fullmoon when I ordered some rolls for my son's birthday last weekend. Initially, I was going to order from Sushi Boy inside Marukai supermarket but for a $50 tray I didn't see much value. As I walked home past Full Moon and order 6 rolls which cost $54 to pick up for the party the next day. They were very fresh and tasty. The Japanese chef who took order from me and he was very polite. I will go back there and eat in.

staff are friendly. but even if staff are friendly the food should be good. I ordered the crunch roll, and California roll. it doesn't have any cucumber in it so it doesn't have any crunch to it. it feels like eating a mushy rice with stuff in it.

This place is right down the street from where I go to school, so I don't know how many breaks between classes have been spent here! Their prices are very reasonable (I don't think they have any rolls over $10), and they have a pretty good variety of options to choose from. I'm a fan of their Philly rolls and their signature Full Moon Roll (I forget what kinds of fish they use in it, but it's deep-fried and awesome). Full Moon is definitely a sushi place that is worth checking out!

  • Robin W.

Solid sushi bar that tends to be very crowded during the weekday lunch hour (s). Full Moon offers a perfect blend of fresh, unadulterated fish but offers a few specialty rolls for those who like their fish deep fried and sauced. The prices are average to being on the low end but the fish is fresh as can be. Lunch specials are downright cheap. Favorites are the jalapeno yellowtail roll, tuna tataki special roll and the garlic albacore roll. Their ponzu is something special.

I've been driving by this place for quite some time and never stopped in to eat here. What a mistake that was. I've been missing out on great food. We sat at the sushi bar which was also a mistake. We ordered everything that we saw Hector (yes Hector) the sushi chef make. It all looked delicious and it was. We tried: The Full Moon healthy roll - salmon and crab on the inside, wrapped in rice paper and topped with tuna and a sweet sauce. Excellent! Hawaiian Ahi - melt in your mouth. Toro- Hector recommended it and which was even better than the Ahi. Hawaiian roll- Crab in the inside topped with Ahi poke. Very unique for a Hawaiian roll. I had to order two because it was so delicious. Crunchy roll- was good and nothing out of the ordinary. Eel sushi was delicious Yellow-tail hand rolls- were wonderful. My wife ordered one spicy and she was raving about it. Salmon- I can go on and on but I think you get the idea. Next time I eat there the Poke bowl is on my list to try. Heard it's fantastic. Overall the prices are fair and the staff was friendly and provided good service. We enjoyed everything we ate and put this sushi restaurant at the top of our list. And on the must come back list.

So, I read in the register that this place just opened in Tustin and they noted another location in Costa Mesa. I wanted to try it because they mentioned how good the prices were. So we made our way over to check it out. It's a cute little sushi bar at the corner of Baker and Harbor. First the sushi chef, Hector was Mexican, not Japanese. But we won't hold it against him because he was awesome and did a great job serving us the amazing sushi specials. We started off with fresh Hawaiian ahi. OMG melt in your mouth good, fresh, amazing. We followed it with the Toro which was incredibly wonderful as well and then we had a yellow tail hand-roll, Hawaiian roll, salmon sushi and the full moon healthy roll. Everything was spectacular. Another customer sat by us ordered the yellow tail cheek and gave me a taste and it was also to die for. Our little one had two crunchy rolls, edameme beans, eel and mochi for dessert. He ate more than I have ever witnessed before so it passed the 5 year old test! I think the prices were very fair but with all that we ordered, two beers, a large saki and an iced tea the bill still came out to 95 dollars. But we did make pigs of ourselves. We will be back for sure, we are hooked!!

I don't know why, but this place came up to mind when I thought about cheap prices on sushi.. Me and the misses went here because we had a craving for sushi. Full Moon did NOT satisfy our cravings. The quality of the food was next to the quality of items you buy at the 99 cent store. Sushi did NOT taste fresh and the prices were overpriced. The price for this shitty quality tasting sushi was the same as sushi you can get at Kabuki's. We ordered 3 rolls and it the bill came out to be around 40 bucks. Pretty pricey for "affordable" sushi. Anyways..the service was good, but the food was not. So if you're craving for some shitty quality sushi, be sure to check this place out.

The Costa Mesa branch is newer & brighter with outside seating on a patio. You get what you pay for when you come to Full Moon. A great value for the price. They've also got a patio for outside seating which is lovely on a warm summer afternoon for dinner or on a sunny day for lunch. The service here is better than the Fountain Valley branch in my opinion, although I've noticed that a lot of the employees work both branches I feel as though their in better moods in Costa Mesa. Lunch/dinner combos are great for those who want decent food without breaking the bank.

I don't know if i like this place out of habit or quality, but full moon in my opinion is the best sushi place in fountain valley, maybe O.C The service is always great, and the sushi reasonably priced. I always get the poke bowl, hawaiian roll, and volcano roll. Seared tuna also rocks. The only downside is that they close at 9pm... so early

I've been going here for quite some time now. This place has a great lunch menu. The quality is average but the price makes it worth coming to. For some odd dollars, you can get a salad, miso soup, entree (chicken teriyaki for me please), and a california roll for like.. $6.00 bucks. That's pretty badass. For that price, you might as well skip out on the fast food and go here. It'll cost the same except this is so much healthier and cleaner.

I've had a couple meals here now, and I quite enjoy the variety, quality, and prices. It all meshes together quite well. In addition to having a good variety of combination plates, teriyaki bowls, and noodles, they have a decent variety of rolls and sushi. One particular item that comes highly recommended is the poke bowl, which is packed with fresh salmon, tuna, and yellow tail and just the right amount of spicy. The Super CA Roll (with eel and avocado on top) is similarly delectable. If there is one roll that didn't impress, it is the signature Full Moon Roll - while packaged with a variety of fresh fish, it just lacks a distinct flavor or texture. Full Moon benefits from being one of few sushi places open on Sundays as well. Service is up to par and the location is easy to find. Check it out if you are still scouring Costa Mesa for some decent sushi.

We have been here a couple of times and their salmon cheek drives my husband nuts! We have tried the following so far: Salmon Cheek: It tasted delicious according to my husband Yellow tail cheek: It was good but my husband preferred the salmon cheek El Jalapeno: Great. This is my favorite Albacore garlic roll: good Hawaiian roll: good The service is good and the price is also reasonable. I'm sure we'll be back soon for more yummy food! :)

I've always gone to the other Full Moon restaurant on Brookhurst so I decided to give this place a tr. Boyfriend arrived at 7:30pm on Easter Sunday there was only a handful of people there. Some more piled in later but not enough to cover half the seats in the place. I guess because this location is tucked way in the back of the plaza and is fairly newer than the other location. I really wanted to give this place 4 stars but we ordered the rainbow roll and the yellowtail (I think) wasn't fresh. Boyfriend commented on the salmon tasting a little weird. Not weird enough to be bad fish, just a bit on the weird side. The rest of the roll was alright even though. I ordered the Teriyaki Combo with a Crunch roll along with the rainbow roll on the side and the bill came about to be 20 including tip. The Crunch was tasty, as always but I'm beginning to think it's because of their sauce because the shrimp tempura wasn't so crunchy and the rice kept falling apart as I was trying to eat it. The Teriyaki chicken was dry and the only thing that made it edible was the sauce that was poured all over it. No one really touched the salad or the rice that came with it. I loved the miso soup because it came out piping hot, but you can't really mess up miso soup. Service was decent, we were greeted when we arrived and left and waitress was nice also. Just the usual and no complaints there. Overall, my meal was satisfying but was just very average for a sushi joint. I've had better at the other location so I think I'll just stick to that one from now on. Oh well, doesn't hurt to try.

I usually eat at weird hours, so it's always quiet when I stop by. Servers are always nice and service is prompt. Food is tasty enough for me and comes at a great price. I'm not a sushi snob, just a casual sushi eater, so the Healthy Fully Moon Roll and vegetable tempura is what I usually order. The combination plates are also very good!

I went there couple days ago. Their food was ok. But fish on the nigiri were super thin, and one of the waiter looks dirty and his service was bad. He smashed our sushi order on the table and left without say nothing! I don't think I'm going back there again!

Full Moon is always our go-to when we have no idea what to eat and we do not want to cook. It's conveniently located right by our house and it's too good to pass up! The sushi chefs are all very friendly and welcoming. We normally get take out but when we eat there, we eat at the sushi bar. We always order the Volcano Roll, the Poke Bowl, and the El Jalapeno Roll. - Volcano Roll: always amazing, always 5 stars. It's our favorite. - Poke Bowl: We love getting the Poke Bowl because it also comes with a bowl of miso soup. The Poke bowl is a very large and generous portion of sushi rice with poke tuna on top with green onions and something else which I cannot really call a "sauce" but it definitely gives it all a little bit of extra flavor. - El Jalapeno: Unique and SPICY. Some days it's way spicier than the others but it all depends on the jalapeno, I guess. We've also tried a few other rolls and have never been disappointed. You can't beat the price and the sushi is fresh. **PS ALWAYS TIP ON TAKE OUT ORDERS :) I don't know why people think that this is an option nowadays but people are still working hard to prepare your food for you! 10% is customary

I came here with a friend of mine and we were the only ones at the restaurant around noon. Not only were the chefs very kind, but they were hilarious as well. The sushi was delicious (I'm a fan of Full Moon restaurants) and the miso soup was amazing as always. I appreciated their quick service and the vibe that I got from their friendly staff.

I had the FullMoon Special for lunch. The California rolls are fine. The miso soup is a little salty. Rice is tough. Teriyaki beef is thin and decent. Salad is so so. However, it is hard to beat $6.5 for all the above. What I really hate is the chopsticks provided here. It is the cheapest disposable kind, with many tiny splinters that are impossible to clean. I didn't plan to eat some wood together with my lunch! Very annoying. I will not go back for the food, but may do so for the value if I happen to be in the area, and hopefully I'll remember to bring my own chopsticks.

Small, comfy little place that seems more like a "get in, get out" type thing. I used to work across the street, so I'd hop on over every now and then for the California roll. The only other thing I've gotten there was the chicken teriyaki, which is just... well, you know, normal. I've never really had a superb chicken teriyaki. However, for the one thing I love (California rolls), they do a good job for a cheap meal. I will definitely come back to satisfy that craving. As for the service? Not too shabby. Never had a bad experience.

Great little restaurant for a quick lunch, dinner, or bite to eat. Service: great for the most part, all the chefs are super friendly and never fail to smile and greet you when you walk in. Servers are pretty good, kinda sucks when the restaurant gets busy but that's understandable. Food: good prices for lunch and dinner, appetizers are good and I'm a big fan of the miso soup. The sushi is fresh, the rice is good, but I wouldn't say there's anything I'd definitely come back for... that's why I didn't give 5 stars. The only reason I'd avoid this place is during peak hours, but that's to be expected. But all in all, I just really appreciate that Orange County can still have a nice, quaint, genuine sit-down non-buffet Japanese restaurant.... without the "to-go" or the ready-made-fake-sushi aspects. Hate that stuff.

This is one of our favorite dinner places after work. Love their poke appetizer and dinner combo's--usually udon & spicy tuna for me. My bf is usually all for their teriyaki beef. The servers are super nice and always make sure your yummy cup of hot tea is never too low. Inexpensive and tasty is never something I complain about--it's all love for Full Moon. :)

I love this place. The poke salad is delicious. My boyfriend always gets the volcano roll--delicious! Lunch/dinner combos are pretty cheap but they don't skimp on the taste. This is a good place to go if you want to have a chill meal. The hours are very convenient as well (they don't close at 2 or 230 and open at 5). Overall a good place to go. I like this place more than the Brookhurst one because it doesn't get obnoxiously loud.

  • Alex A.

Worst customer service ever. They take their "we reserve the right to refuse service" way too seriously. Waiters have absolutely no decent manners. The only welcoming part is the fake greeting at the door. Last time I ate there the waitress brought me my food for 'to go' which I didn't specify to have her do, but didn't make a big deal out of it. And afterwards told me to go eat it OUTSIDE because it was in to go packaging. Who in the world does that. So she kicked me out.

5 Stars for the prices. 4 Stars for the staff. They always say hello and goodbye as you're entering, but don't seem to have the time for even a 30 second conversation. 2 Stars for the seating arrangements. I feel like I'm sitting in random people's laps and have no privacy. 3 Stars for the quality of the sushi. 5 Stars for the Philadelphia Rolls (which are my favorite and deserve their own category). 3 Stars for the parking lot and overall crowd Overall Rating: 3.7 stars. (No really. I did the math :-P)

For some reason I like this location much better than the one in fountain valley. It's nicer and cleaner. There're seating outside in the patio. Everytime I came here I never have to wait for a table, The combonation plates are amazing deals and actually pretty yummy for the price. I love the vocano rolls sometimes the rice can be a bit dry though. I think it's just depend on how much time it was baked? All in all it's a good sushi place when you are trying to spend less than $10 a roll. =)

Seriously, these low reviews are kind of sad to read. I honestly can't think of a better place for the price. They serve a bit of everything as well as some affordable sushi. Maybe not the most top notch food, but what do you expect from a low $$ range japanese restaurant? Its an affordable answer to a japanese craving. I come here for beef teriyaki combos, poke salad, noodles, pretty much everything is up to par. Ive never had bad food here or even at the fv location when its packed. If you want melt in your mouth salmon, exceptional japanese cuisine and exquisitely crafted rolls, then why the hell are you reviewing chicken teriyaki and a crunch roll at a cheap restaurant? you know who you are..... bottom line, good food, even better for the money, friendly staff, this location is never crowded, and its close to school for me. Solid 4 stars. definitely worth a try if youve never been.

I'm not entirely sure why this restaurant has such high ratings. I came here for it's high ratings. The price is reasonable. The food is okay. (not that fresh) The service was really really slow. I am serious, it is really slow. Between every order, it takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Then when we asked for the check, that took another 20 minutes. And this place was not in anyway busy at ALL. The restaurant was quite empty!

Very good value for the dollar here in terms of quality and quanity. They have lunch specials that are $6.50 and their Poke bowl is the best. It's become one of my regular lunch spots since it is down the street from my office. Looking forward to going there again soon. =)

By far the best sushi place around. The employees and the food are both excellent. The El Jalapeno is the BOMB. I hear the poke is excellent but have yet to try it because I am hooked on the Jalapeno and the Eel Roll. Love this place.

I've eaten here so many times so I figured I should finally review it. THE FOOD Sushi is pretty decent for the price. Most nigiri sushi here is about 2.50-3.50 an order. The pieces are a bit smaller than other sushi bars i've been to but it makes it easier to eat in one bite also. The sushi is usually a hit or miss. Sometimes its great but other times its a bit disappointing. Of the times I've been here, the sushi is better than not. If you're craving sushi but on a budget, I totally recommend this place. (The volcano roll is pretty good too!) AMBIANCE It's clean inside and pretty simple. It's usually self seating, unless it's busy (but this location isn't as busy as the Fountain Valley one). There's framed pictures of mosiac-like beach/surfing images. Seems like a place that the younger crowd might like, but its still a decent place for the family. Not much of a date place. More like a good lunch for a quick bite. Eat and leave. SERVICE For the most part everyone is usually pretty friendly. Nothing over the top and never really any bad service. They pretty much just serve you the food and stay out of your business. But they do greet you when you enter and leave. :) I come here atleast once a month to satisfy my sushi craving while on a poor college student budget. I've been working at a sushi restaurant for about 4 years now and I think I know a thing or two about good sushi. So overall, if you're looking for good, cheap sushi this is the place.

This is my new favorite restaurant. The prices are very fair (7.50ish) and the sushi chefs are great. They have $3.50 Asahi. The volcano is my bfs favorite and the crunchy is my favorite. Clean and easy to get to off the 405.

Food Taste: 3 Stars Food Portion: 4 Stars Service: 3 Stars Location: 4 Stars Cleanliness & Atmosphere: 4 Stars Price: 4 Stars Sushi here tasted okay and the fish and rice ratio was good. My boyfriend and I ordered salmon special roll, fullmoon roll, super CA roll with the eel, miso soup, and then later ordered albacore belly sushi. The quality was okay and the price was just right. My boyfriend wanted albacore belly sushi so I called the waiter and asked him if we can get that. He looked at me weird and said "we dont have that" and walked away. He looked unsure and he could have at least gone back and ask, but no. Minus a star. So I called the waitress cause she looked like she would know and she did and they had it. The sushi piece was huge but quality not so great. So why 1 Stars overall? When we got back home after eating, at the very same time he and I had a stomach issue. NO BUENO! Never ever we get a stomach reaction from eating sushi. Probably the sushi's quality wasn't great after all. =( Sorry, but we won't be coming back.

Full Moon Sushi is exceptionally good and, importantly for my repeat visitation, also a great deal. It's a 5 star for its price range! The service is attentive and nice. My first time I tried the yellow-tail jalapeno roll, which was excellent. The tempura is also very well done, as well as the standard California roll, which my wife always gets, and the standard spicy tuna roll. The lunch specials are a steal for a salad, main dish, and sushi roll for well under $10.

This is hit or miss. Sometimes it is amazing other times I cannot even eat the sushi. Eventually I just stopped going which is really sad because they can be so great sometimes. The one on Brookhurst is supposed to be amazing, this one is not and the sushi guys do not want modify anything. I couldn't imagine eating here again. Go to Maru Sushi where you can order half rolls, modifiy, they have fresh fish and great prices.

I would say the food is 4 star but with price and service being considerations, this place is 5 stars! By far the best tasting cheapest sushi I have ever had. The fact that they serve baked mussels is great many places do not, but they weren't the best I've had and on one occassion my rainbow roll was a little fishy :/ I have since forgiven them as they have otherwise consistency delivered delicious food. All the rolls I've had here are good except the on time. Very good, VERY cheap. Small restaurant, great parking. Love ordering in and picking it up togo. Hot sushi chefs, super friendly servers.

there are no words to describe my experience, if i could i would rate it less than 1 star... you be the judge. recently went for a family dinner (party of 6) for my grandmother's birthday. we took a seat and the waitress asked what we would have to drink, we all ordered soda except for my grandmother who ordered green tea. the waitress brought the drinks and forgot the sugar which is okay sometimes people forget. i understand but the fact the restaurant was basically empty with 2 other tables of two people, it should've been easy money. of course my grandmother's tea was cold by the time the sugar had been brought to the table. the dishes were not cleared as our different sushi rolls arrived. which only added to the frustration of me having to call the waitress over and over again. not once did she check on our table without me calling her. point being i was dissatisfied with the service that i didn't think the waitress earned her tip... so the waitress chases me to my car and asks me why? by this point i really let her have it... little did she know i am a waitress as well so i know the steps to giving great service. i was so shocked the lady thought i was going to throw my money at her without her earning it. so i made her listen to all the things she had done wrong because she obviously has enough time to chase me while i'm already backing out in my car!!!! a few days later i called for the manager and they hung up on me. ridiculous!!!!!! no way in H-E-double hockey sticks i'll be returning.

Cheap, cheap, cheap! Their menu does not do this place justice. Most sushi places have a vast menu of well-described items. It took us many trips here to figure out what we really liked. Their lunch combos are under $10, many including sushi. Sit at the sushi bar and 'create' with their chefs. They are more than willing to take suggestions and help you make something more creative. (It took us several 'average' trips to learn this.) I highly recommend El Jalapeno (basically a stuffed jalapeno popper), yellowtail jalapeno roll (seared yellowtail on California roll with jalapeno) and Hawaiian roll (California roll with poke on top.) They have the usual variety of normal rolls you'll find elsewhere as well: spider roll, rainbow roll, volcano roll, California roll, etc. All have been very good, as well as their sushi. Now this is one of our favorite places. I highly recommend trying their lunch specials sometime when you are low on cash. Go in late night and buy the chefs a couple rounds too!

this place to me, is like the carl's junior of sushi. you enjoy it because its cheap. if you want/appreciate better quality fish, go somewhere else. A lot of people like to pretend they know sushi and eat here.

I have eaten here twice and I don't think I'll return. The place wasn't horrible but it just wasn't worth the time and money. My first visit was during lunch and I think there was only one other person eating there at the time. I ordered Salmon teriyaki. The quantity was good but the quality of the salmon they used was cheap. The price was good, but IMHO if the foods not goo then the price doesn't matter. On my second visit the place was packed. The crowd was mostly white and ordering cooked meals. The person I was with ordered tempura udon and I ordered some nigiri sushi off the specials board. There was only one waitress. She was very polite and kind but it was just a little much for her to handle. The tea served was like water due to being steeped to many times. The quality of the tea in Japanese restaurants is a good pre cursor to the quality and authenticity of the food. The udon was worse than that served at the cheap to go places that exist on almost every corner here. The sushi was decent. The presentation was awful. In Japan they say the meal begins with the eyes. The Aji was prepared very well and tasted fresh. I couldn't tell the quality of the sushi rice because there was sauce on it under the fish so it kind of masked it. I was very surprised because this place is Japanese owned and operated so my expectations were a little higher. I don't think I will return here again.

i went here on a positive enthusiastic expectation based on personal accounts and this web site. I am sorry to report that what i ordered was less than good. especially the spicy tuna hand roll. I also ordered a spicy salmon hand roll with advo. There was mayo or cream cheese in it. Ummmm, no. i also ordered a tuna special cut roll. It was a Ca roll with tuna on top. So here is my opinion: i ordered to go so maybe that was a factor. the fish at the sushi bar looked fresh...and my typical order is nigiri so maybe I would have benefitted with ordering nigiri. What i sampled was way less than i expected. the spicy tuna roll was sub-standard tuna and tasted "on the edge." the salmon roll was decent. Both rolls were tiny. the" special" cut roll was Ca roll with ok tuna on top. very unimaginative since the menu gives no description of what is in the roll. Its a mystery until you order it. There are much better sushi restaurants. I can say its clean and staff is attentive.btw, i always resist when the rest of the family wants niko niko, but it far exceeds on the spicy salmon hand roll with advo for price, size, quality and satisfaction. I was hoping for a true find, but not this time. i wont go back

Food is okay and attentive until they are trying to kick you out. The waitress brought the check without asking and never asked if we wanted dessert. Second I was not finished with my plate and the waiter wanted to take it from me. Not sure if I want to give them a second chance... Next

Food was good, no doubt. I got the stomach flu hours later. Must have been the scallops? But it definitely was the food from there because it was the last thing I ate before getting this bug. now I have to spend valentine's day throwing up with diarrhea. As for the service, the men behind the sushi bar were friendly. The waitress was a complete bitch. She was arrogant and didn't pay attention to us unless we called for her.

Although the food was good, the service was horrible. My co-worker had asked for a side of eel sauce with her roll, and they forgot about it, then asked the second time, forgot again, then finally brought it to us the 3rd time asking. I had asked for spicy mayo sauce, and they didn't even tell us it was extra charge for it, they charged $1.50, ARE YOUR SERIOUS!? Since the food was decent, I went back there and guess what! They AGAIN didn't mention anything about the extra charge when I ordered "sauce" on the side, so I called them out on it, and they were denying it and asked "who was your server" etc... SO ANNOYING! I work in the restaurant industry as well and in that case, I would have brought them over a comp miso soup or something small showing apologies. This restaurants food: good, the service: HORRIBLE! cleanliness: okie dokie. Would I ever go back? Probably not.

It's a pretty cool place. No wait time. Fast service. Clean and friendly staff. The food is kind of hit or miss. Only a few rolls are impressive. Nothing to write home about. Good spot for a quick lunch. Good for convenience.

Their Poke Bowl was decently sized and filled me up.. I think I might have gone on a bad day because the fish was a bit chewy and wasn't as fresh as I hoped it would be. The poke bowl also comes with miso soup too and they also have edamame $1.50! I've also tried some of their rolls before and they were all just okay for me, nothing extraordinary.

  • Hong H.

Not a bad place to eat at. I haven't tried their sushi yet, only got their Poke Salad which was good, but not the greatest. I get the combo which is half teriyaki chicken and beef cause I'm not a fan of California rolls. The sushi combo can't be changed either.

Just don't come here. If a sushi place is open in between lunch and dinner, you know that they're desperate for business. If they're desperate for business, then their sushi isn't good enough to brag about. Their fish wasn't fresh- it was the most foul taste I've ever experienced. Your bill also has to be more than $10 if you wanna use credit so that was very inconvenient because I had to order something else that also wasn't all that great.

    (1)
  • Annie L.

Although prices were very cheap and portions were large (if you got a combo special or the poke-bowl), I thought the tuna in my poke bowl tasted fishy and not "freshS" at all. I would really only come here for the affordable prices. I am hoping it was an off day, because there are such great reviews about this place.

The only good things I can say about Full Moon are the prices and the delicious Poke Bowl. This is the third Full Moon I have been to and it's generally the same complaints. First off, I came here with a party of 5 and were seated @ table that hadn't been wiped down. Granted the employee can to do a quick wipe down but the table was still sticky, gross! Moving forward, the server took my coworkers order wrong and didn't bring my entire out. I ordered a Poke Bowl & the Philly Roll. Poke Bowl was great until I found a hair, sigh°. By the time I was ready to go, they bring out the Philly Roll geez. I just gave it away because I was done. Luckily my coworkers are hungry people. Friends & Yelpers rave about Full Moon but I haven't had a great experience @ one yet. I'd rather go to the little hole the wall sushi joints where I know I will be served accordingly.

Sushi is love. I tried this sushi place out for dinner since it's a few blocks from school. They do take out -- which you can call in or order when you get there (takes about 5 minutes to wait for take out, though). Or you can also dine in. I ordered hand cut Tuna and hand cut Spicy Yellowtail. Both came to about $10 and some change. Both were fresh and tasted great. The only thing I didn't like was that the rolls were falling apart when I got them, which made it hard to eat. Overall, the food was decent, staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Would I come back here? Sure, but it wasn't the best sushi around. But for the price and how quick they are, it's totally worth it. Cheers!

The cut of the sushi was kind of too big. The lunch combo was okay. Not enough rice though, they gave us half a bowl... why is that? Miso soup came out warm, I was expecting HOT! The bowls, plates, and cups here are very old looking. This location is nothing compared to the one on Beach. Waitresses were nice, but very hard to get their attention when you need them. I came here around 4pm, there was only 2 table seated. I, being the second one... Needless to say, I had better sushi elsewhere. I will continue to go to the Full Moon location on Beach, but just not to this one.

Not a bad place to go if you work in the area and are looking for a place to satisfy sushi lunch cravings. The restaurant is a tad small, but there was no wait for a party of two around 12:45 pm on a Friday. SPICY TUNA ROLL COMBINATION PLATE WITH TEMPURA ($8.50): Comes with miso soup, salad, and a bowl of rice. The food was nothing remarkable, but it's a good value for the amount that you get. Tempura and salad were both a bit soggy; there were definitely some old leaves in the salad that should have been tossed out. POKE BOWL ($9.50): I was originally planning on ordering the sashimi bowl, but our server recommended the poke bowl instead (apparently some people were unsatisfied with the amount of sashimi they received). I'm glad I went with his suggestion, as the portions I received were pretty generous. Comes with a bowl of miso soup. Overall, a decent place. I don't know if there is a distinction between lunch and dinner pricing, but my friend and I were charged $7.50 and $8.50 instead of the previously mentioned prices (which are from the menu). They were a bit slow in getting the check back to us, but other than that, service was pretty solid. However, if I wasn't dining during the constraints of a one-hour lunch break, I would probably venture to some other places in Costa Mesa for better quality sushi.

If you want low quality cheap sushi and service. Here's your place. This place seems like its owned by a Japanese but it's not one of those high quality sushi places. They don't care about their customer service either. Well.. at least it's cheap.:/

My friend and I went here to satisfy our sushi craving in the Costa Mesa area. The interior is a bit small with a bar area and several little tables throughout the restaurant. I ordered the crunchy roll, which was okay. Nothing too exciting that stood out from other sushi places, I guess you get what you paid for. I would consider going to the revolving sushi bars, as you get much more sushi for so cheap and it does taste different! There is a $10 minimum credit card/debit card amount though.

How can this place get bad reviews? I have been coming here for the last 4 yrs and always had a great experience. Staff is friendly. Hector (Sushi Chef) is awesome. Always great to talk to. Informs me of the specials and anything new on the menu. Sushi quality is decent, good portion and great taste. Can't go wrong with the Albacore Garlic Roll or the Spider Roll, usually what we start out with on our sushi journey. Around 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays it gets busy and there may be a wait, because location is at the Target shopping center. My wife and I have had mostly everything on the menu, and I always bring friends and family here to try something different.

Came here for the first time to try the food. It's a small place tucked around the corner of a large shopping center. Selections seemed very appetizing. I also enjoyed the staff there who were very nice and friendly. Took the food to go to another store in the same plaza to eat with friends. Portions are small in comparison to other sushi places I have tried. Also, there was no presentation, as all of our sushi selections were placed in one box. I wouldn't say the sushi is bad though. It's not bad for a quick fix and I wouldn't mind stopping by again to give this place a second chance as a sit in customer. Maybe next time?

I came here to eat with my dad for lunch today. The restaurant was bigger than I thought, and I liked the overall atmosphere. I ordered the chicken terriyaki combination with sashimi and my dad ordered the beef terriyaki with tempura. The tempura comes with two shrimps and a bunch of vegetables. The miso soup was okay - a bit too bland for me. The tofu didn't have any taste either. The chicken terriyaki had no skin which made me a little disappointed. Even with the bowl of rice, there was so much terriyaki sauce that it overwhelmed the taste of the chicken. The salad was standard with the ginger dressing I believe, but there was a bit too much of it. My dad's beef terriyaki ... the beef was cut really thinly that it was hard to really get a taste of the beef even after swallowing the piece of meat. The sashimi looked really good and thick, but when it was in my mouth, I felt like each piece of sushi tasted the same. I didn't get the juiciness that I want and crave when I eat fish. The tuna roll was a big disappointment. There was barely a chunk of fish in there ... barely. At Tokyo Lobby (the Japanese restaurant my family frequently goes to) the tuna roll is of the same type (with the seaweed on the outside) but they're much taller with much more fish inside. I also wished the tuna was a bit more fresh. The tempura was really good, though. It was crispy and fried to perfection (or at least on the shrimp that I ate) and not oily. If I come here again, I will probably try the poke bowl and the tempura. Everybody else ordered the California Roll (which looked big and meaty). Probably do the same next time. The service is really great, though. Everybody is super nice and very attentive. There is a $10 minimum fee if you wish to pay with credit card.

Ran in for a quick lunch. The place is clean, the food was really good, and the service was pretty good - I had to ask for a box and for my check, but once I told them I was in a hurry They did get me in and out really quickly. I like the atmosphere in this location better than in Fountain Valley, but I think the service is better in FV. I recommend both.

~Volcano: ok ~Spider: skimpin! Where are the legs??? I've never had a spider roll without spider legs (i know, crab, spider, w/e!!) That was disappointing! ~Crunch: ok ~Philly: ok ~Healthy full moon: tasty, only one that I'd order again ~Garlic albacore: gross! No one at the table liked it! Ponzu sauce with w/e was in the roll just didn't cut it! Will not order this again! ~Caterpillar: ok ~Baked scallop: skimpin! Tiniest order I've ever seen! Pass! ~El jalapeno: I've had better. Pass! ~Salmon sashimi: fresh but cuts could be bigger ~Uni: fresh but could be more This wouldn't be my first pick for sushi, more like a "where do we go to get a quick fix cuz all the good places are packed or closed?!!!"

This sushi place is a pretty small sushi place. Their menu isn't a long list but they have a few items that I definitely enjoy! -[[ Hawaiian Roll ]]- This is pretty much a california roll topped with poke. Their poke is delicious, fresh, and seasoned to perfection which makes it soooooooo good!! They have a "house special sauce" that they marinate their poke in that makes it oh so yummers!!! -[[ Volcano Roll ]]- If you love baked rolls, you'll LOVE this one! This is a baked scallop roll. I'm a fan of baked rolls, and I usually order it at every sushi place I go to. This place has really got the flavor down just right! The only problem is that they bake the whole roll (i think most other sushi places just bake the scallops and then put it on top of the rolls) which makes it hard to pick up with chopsticks. It kind of just falls apart, but its still delicious and heavenly!!! -[[ Full moon roll ]]- This is another favorite of mine at this restaurant. They have two versions: the regular and "the healthy." The healthy version is wrapped in soy paper and its such a yummy and refreshing roll. It has Tuna, salmon, white fish, shrimp, avocado, crabmeat, and smelt eggs - served with eel sauce. -{{ Overall tastiness experience }}- I give it 4 stars for the delicious items I described above. Prices were also reasonable. I look forward to coming back and trying something new!

The service is friendly and quick. +++The only dish that was edible is the baked scallops. -++Fried tofu was mediocre. ---House special fishes: sushi rice falling apart, fish meat was dry and fishy. I am quite disappointed at this place in compare with the last time. This will be our last time to visit this place.

Came here for late dinner, and we ordered the Full Moon Roll, Baked Salmon Roll, Crunchy Roll, and Hawaiian Roll. All tasted pretty good, and service was good. Would come back again for the Full Moon Roll, but dock 1 star for charging $1 for hot tea.

The quintessential generic sushi spot. Super bland food. Service is efficient but so efficient they serve you your bill with your main course. Lunch specials are cheap but you get what you pay for. They charged for spicy mayo so I will never return.

I thought the overall experience was ok. I got this cheap sushi vibe, though. The fish tasted fine, but I wasn't blown away by any means. The food came quickly, the restaurant felt modern and open, and I can't complain about the service. Overall, a solid three stars. No more, but definitely no less.

Decent sushi for lunch. This is a definite lunch spot - not dinner. The sushi is just OK but for the price it's not bad. I would eat here again just not anytime soon because there are way too many other places to go to first. Not worth a special trip out just for this place.

Convenient location on Harbor Blvd (before 405) near Target and Sprouts, and also very close to my work. Full Moon does not disappoint and I find myself there once a month or so for lunch. My go-to rolls are the Cucumber Special Roll (tuna, salmon, white fish, shrimp, avocado, crabmeat and wrapped in cucumber and drizzled with ponzu sauce) and the Healthy Full Moon Roll (same insides as cucumber but wrapped in soy paper and drizzled with eel sauce). I've also tried the Albacore Garlic (YUM!) and a couple others. I typically order take out and depending on how busy they are, it usually takes the standard amount of time. Food is filling and fresh, and the prices are pretty good for what you're getting - that's so important to remember when eating raw fish!! The decor doesn't really offer much as far as a place to go on a date, but there's plenty of other "fancy" sushi places for that. Great for lunch or an easy-going dinner. Friendly staff and quality food - no complaints from me!

It was your typical fast food sushi. I did enjoy the scallop bomb. Service was good and fast, everyone greeted us. I don't think I will be back. I prefer Fuji Grill for fast food sushi.

The menu is pretty fun. Came here during lunch and their lunch menu has a really good price range. I got the sashimi lunch. Which is where they give you some miso soup, salad, rice and mix sashimi. Salad was a little frozen (or just welted). Soup was .. miso soup. Miso soup is miso soup. Rice ... not super great, but not bad. Now, the sashimi .. It's not very fresh. Not very fresh at all. I mean, it's not horrible, I could still finish it. But just, not fresh. So why 3 stars ? For the price. I would just strongly suggest you to get a normal bento box, with no sashimi. Then you would be a happy camper with an easy lunch. The waiter and waitress are nice !

Came here with a friend few weeks ago for dinner. Their sushi is surprisingly cheap!!!!!!! The poke appetizer we got was very bland and chewy :( it's so hard to find good poke around CA!!!! We ordered uni, salmon, ikura, scallops, unagi and few other nigiri but was just ok... The uni was a little slimy and had a fishy taste :/

Great local place to get my sushi fix. My usually order is a poke bowl. The meal comes with miso soup. The bowl itself is pretty big. It's full of poke and rice. I get stuffed trying to eat the whole thing. I try to split this so I can order sushi rolls. Volcano Roll-Baked cali roll with scallops on top in a mayo base sauce. This roll takes longer than others since it has to be backed. One of my favorites. Hawaiian Roll - Cali roll topped with their poke. I'm a fan of their poke so what better way to have it than on a roll. They also have a Full Moon Special meal that comes with a cut roll, teriyaki, rice, salad and miso soup all for less than $10. Amazing deal.

Came here for dinner around 8. No wait at all. This location seemed much spacier than the Fountain Valley one. This is probably my favorite spot to get Poke. (I prefer it over North Shore and Bear Flag). Their Full Moon roll was amazing as well. Dinner is a little pricey. Prices are definitely much more worth it for lunch!

Went here for lunch on my first day of work. Fairly affordable for the food you get, just based on the lunch combo. I need to come back for the rolls and sashimi but for now, I'm fairly satisfied with this place.

Have been eating at Full Moon since they first opened on Brookhurst. Have never been disappointed. They have great combos for great prices. My fave is the crunch roll & tempura combo in addition you'll get cup of miso, salad and a bowl of of rice. 10.50$ I rarely finish it. Love their full moon roll & el jalapeño yum. Now that I work in LA it sucks that I can only get my fill on the weekends.

You would think that if you fell in love with one Full Moon Sushi restaurant that you would automatically fall in love with another Full Moon Sushi restaurant, correct? WRONG! I am a huge fan of the Full Moon Sushi on Brookhurst in Fountain Valley, but this particular restaurant I am not a fan of at all. The biggest peeve was that in the middle of eating one of my crunch rolls, I found a long black hair in the fried tempura...gross!!! I immediately got grossed out and flagged down the waitress to inform her. I was not rude at all and I just simply stated that there was a hair in my food. She gave me this dirty look and she said "let me see!" her tone that she gave to me made me feel like she didn't believe me! Why would I lie about that? I know I'm a broke college student but I am definitely not that desperate...she never apologized and she simply stated that she was going to get me a new one. I did really appreciate that, but we were on our lunch break so I didn't have time to wait again and dine in. So I was trying to grab her attention once more to let her know that I would like to have it to-go instead of being plated for here...but she just kept walking around and didn't attend to us at all. Finally, she came back to us, with the food plated for here, and said "Here. New."...wow. I very apologetically asked her if I could please have it to go. She gave me this sarcastic laugh and ROLLED HER EYES at me. I couldn't believe it!! She went back there and asked for it to be packed to-go. The chef that was behind the bar was super friendly and he apologized for the hair and inconvenience. She was a terrible waitress and didn't even offer us any refills for our water and she only attended to us when we called for her...and it wasn't even that busy!! I would definitely not come back here and I would rather spend a few more bucks for gas and just go to the Full Moon in Fountain Valley.

I didn't realize how tiny this place was until I walked in. I sat at the bar and ordered 2 orders of sashimi: salmon and yellowtail. Good thing they told me an order was 6 pieces of fish or else I would've over ordered like crazy. The salmon was super fresh and delicious and the yellowtail was decent. The prices were average but the service was good. I'd come back if I was in the area

This place is my husband's and I 's favorite sushi restaurant in the area. We don't eat raw stuff, but their rolls are amazing. California, crunchy, philly, scallop, and many more delicious combos. Also try the jalapeno popper appetizer thing, can be very spicy but delicious!

I liked it a lot - Poke Bowl is very inexpensive yet a lot larger than I assumed. The fried Tofu is delicate but flavorful, a bit soupy with the sauce but delicious. The service was a tad slow but it was during a lunch crush (Weekday). I think I found a good Sushi Spot in Costa Mesa. My entire lunch included Miso Soup, Diet Coke (LOL), Poke Bowl and Fried Tofu all for under $15 bucks w/o tip yet. Pleased as a pig in poop. :)

One of my friends at work offered to take me to lunch last week and told me to suggest a spot. Cool! Another bookmark gets crossed off the ol' list and I get a free lunch, too. I'm a huge fan of full moon in Huntington Beach. I figured the fish quality would be consistent here and the reviews were quite good. The layout and size are about the same. The biggest difference on this weekday was the level of service. The food was very good with good sized rolls and very fresh fish. The service, though, was lacking. The two waitresses were running their tails off but they simply needed more help for the number of tables. I'll be back, since my work location lacks a decent sushi selection. I would say its the best sushi this close to my office.

I live nearby and have been wanting to try this place for a while. I decided to get takeout the other day for lunch. I called in and ordered a couple of cut rolls. When I arrived 10 min later everything was bagged up and ready for me. So far so good... When I got home and opened the box it didn't go so well. One roll had avocado in it and it wasn't supposed to. Normally I'd welcome avocado anytime, but this avocado was practically gray and rotten. Everything basically looked limp and old, nothing appeared fresh. The rolls were even poorly wrapped. They were so loose that everything fell out when I picked up a piece. Overall I was pretty bummed with my experience, and unfortunately will not be back. There are too many other great sushi places in the area. Find someplace else!

This place has the BEST sashimi!!! It's sooo good and soft! I love it. The tempura is also bomb. They give an onion one and it's so good. At other Japanese places, they don't give an onion tempura (usually). They also have this really good scallop thing with crab in it. Idk what it's called, but it's freaking bomb.

multiple locations, and the first place i went to was the one in fountain valley. the original store i believe. The costa mesa location is by far the best i think. BEST POKE salad ever here! a must try, sushi is fresh and so good and great customer service. u gotta try it!

A fresh poke bowl, that is all I could ever ask for. The poke bowl is fresh and the portion is just right. The service on a week day lunch is impeccable (meaning there are little people here so there is no wait). I could not ask more for a better sushi bowl :)

IN A NUTSHELL Good Sushi at an Affordable Price! BORING DETAILS Back in my "broke college student" years ('07 - '10), Full Moon Sushi was the place to spoil yourself with a good $10. The fish was fresh, the service was super-friendly, and compared to most sushi joints (like "Ra Sushi"), you saved roughly $2-5 per roll. THE COOL Always funny hearing a loud "MOSHI MOSHI!" when you walk into the place and a jubilant "ARIGATO!" when you leave. THE NOT-SO-COOL After opening up other sushi joints in the area, Full Moon's quality & freshness has become inconsistent. The Poki Bowls aren't as HUGE as they once were, and the presentation has diminished a bit. I still love the place, but the quality is often dependent on who's rollin' your sushi that day. RECOMMENDED + Personal Fave: "Crazy Style" (extra spicy) Poki Bowl + Best Hand Roll: Salmon Skin + Best Baked Roll: Volcano + Best Flavor Kick: Garlic Albacore Roll or Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp)

This was place was good. The wife and I had their combo dinner. The tempura was crispy and pretty good. The place seemed to be run by actual Japanese people, so it seemed pretty legit. I'd go back to try their sashimi.

I tried this location after trying the Tustin location, its offerings are pretty much the same. The only difference I really noticed was that this location has more of a sterile fast food type atmosphere. I tried the poke salad since my friend had the poke bowl last time and I loved it. Their poke sauce is so fresh and delicious! It was a no carb day since I had to squeeze in to a really unforgiving dress later that night. I was REALLY surprised that I could be full off the salad, so its definitely enough for a girl but not enough for a guy. Just so I wouldn't be hungry I also got a side of the teriyaki chicken, it was a bit dry but alas thats usually how teriyaki chicken is. But my friend said the teriyaki beef was good :) I also grabbed a piece of his crunch roll, which was also yummy! Not soggy and flavorless as a lot of crunch rolls can be. This place has become my new favorite spot for a cheap sushi fix

Came in for a quick lunch a couple days ago during my school break since I forgot to pack a lunch and school cafeteria food is nastaayy... and expensive. I got the Full Moon Special that included chicken teriyaki, rice, salad, miso soup, and 6 or 8 pieces (I forgot...) of a California Roll for only $6.50 ish!! The portion definitely wasn't Cheesecake Factory sized, but it did fill me up without making me feel like I had a food baby. Overall, the food was tasty and cheap! The sushi rice on the California Roll was very underseasoned, but you can't really complain for the price. My boss says this place is famous for their Poke Bowls so I'll have to try that next time!

We walked in tonight and had terrible service. The first waiter asked us how many and then just walked away even though tables were open. Another female waiter finally seated us at a booth. Once we ordered it took over 30 min for one of the dishes to arrive. We ordered chicken teriyaki, baked clam, poki bowl, crunchy roll, and another sushi roll. I don't understand how it could possibly take another 15 min for the rolls to arrive. Dont get the baked clam, it cost around 4 bucks and was just a little aluminum foil cup of sushi. Food was overpriced and small portioned. Basically I spent more time waiting than eating. First time, never return.

If you want to save money and eat sushi, this is the place. They have all American favorite major rolls and they are very affordable. This place is known as a great Poke bowl. And it is true. I had Poke salad and it was good for price! You get what you pay. This place does it well. If you are looking for a fine sushi, this is not the place. Don't expected to be brown away or anything. As long as you keep your expectation right for the price. You will be happy.

The other location in fountain valley was way better. After they seated us they forgot about us Nobody came over at all to take our drink order, let alone food... People that sat down after us got served and their food came put...by that time, iwas so pissed after 20 min of sitting there wondering if someone will notice, I got up to leave. This guy comes over and says , hi, have you been helped? I said nope. I'm going to go somewhere else where they care about their customers. It was one of my favorite places but now, I will not step foot in there. What a waste of time place...

2.5 Stars. In Costa Mesa, there is a list of "sushi" restaurants that sell (1) Cheap (2) Lunch (3) Combos. Full Moon is one of them. The others are: Sushi Box, Maru Sushi, Bentoss and of course Miyabi Tei (I will review all of the lunch combos for these restaurants). This review is for the lunch combo. Verdict: Kinda meh. Price: $6.50 plus tax Combo: Rice, Salad, Choice of Tempura, Beef or Chix Sushi: California Roll Soup: Miso Soup The salad was very very very meh and filler-ish. The tempura was extremely oily but there was a good portion of 2 shrimps, 1 slice of white onion, 1 sweet potato and 1 some random veggie. I would not order the tempura again. It was super super greasy and made me feel sick. The California roll had "krab" but it was a very large portion (6 pieces). It's pre-made (sitting on a tray near the kitchen, which looked kinda gross). Overall: I won't be back for the lunch combo, since there is better to be had at Sushi Box for the same-ish price. SKIP.

Full Moon is simple, clean and tidy. No need for that fancy pants stuff. They've got standard furniture, floor, and decorations. Does any of this matter? No, not really. Full moon provides good food and exceptional service. That's all we really need. Am I right? Thank you Full Moon for the affordable prices. Not everyone is a baller these days, so much appreciated for looking out. Oh and to the staff, you guys are awesome. You all have great attitudes and it makes dining in that much better. The volcano roll, baked scallops, crunch roll, rainbow roll, el jalapeno, etc. Delicious is what they are. So go ahead and pay a visit. Don't worry about busting the bank, you're good.

Tried this spot with a co worker a while back, and i thought it was really good! not my favorite spot, but i do have to say the sushi was fresh, and their combinations are great! the rolls are not very expensive, and the alcohol was fairly priced! If im out and about again in costa mesa i would probably come back and try this spot again! there were a couple rolls i wanted to try but didnt get the chance too!

Several months ago, I embarked on a sacred quest for the Perfect Poké. I would not rest until I found the Poké of my dreams: fresh fish, no fillers, ample portions, marinated in a savory sauce with just enough bite, served to me by beautiful island maidens. Also: cheap. The sustained pursuit of Poké is pricey, my friends. As I labored on this arduous task, I found all manner of Poké: bites of ahi cut from the toughest, gristliest part of the fish, drowning in sauce made from Blandness; elegant but spoon-sized servings that would make a hungry hapa haole weep openly; and finally, giant mountains of fake crab and real mayo, hoarding their precious tiny nuggets of tuna and salmon, as if to taunt the Poké-lover: "Come and find us if you can!" I became the motherflipping Goldilocks of Poké. When would I find the one that was just right? Then I found Full Moon Sushi. The Poké here was not perfect, but it was Pretty Damn Good--almost as good as Mom's. And it was Not Too Spendy (but not as cheap as eating at Mom's). So far, I've eaten it in the bowl and salad formats, but I need to go back and try the Hawaiian roll, which I think is a California Roll topped with mounds of piquant Poké. No need to thank me, dear Yelper. This is a necessary sacrifice that I make willingly. I found that I could rest here for a bit. The fusion rolls weren't bad, either: the albacore garlic, the jalapeño yellow-tail, salmon-lover's: all fresh and tasty without feeling too heavy with sauce or avocado/mayo. I haven't given up on my Pursuit for the Perfect Poké, but I've changed it a bit. There may be many good pokes out there, and I'm taking more of a, "I've gotta catch them all" attitude. Call me the Poké-Man.

This place is fucken disgusting. I went in for lunch with 2 friends and got a teriyaki plate. They took me a miso soup with no spoon. I had to ask for one. Then they took the teriyaki plate and again no utensils. I went up and asked for one and they gave me one. When I sat down I looked at the fork and it had food on it. Then I went back and let them know and the girl didn't say anything, just went back and got another one. She came holding the fork by the head and handed it to me. Idk what dumb bitch thinks that's ok. Would she use it if I handed it to her like that? I had to go to my car and get plastic utensils I luckily had. The amount of food I got was ridiculous. The small bowl at FLAME BROILER has triple the meat and rice and for half the price. My friends sushi rolls weren't good and they were overpriced. We asked them to split the check and of course they didn't, they just put item by item. We had to do it for them. I wish I could give no stars and bitches were mad at us when they are lucky we didn't just walk out.

Been dining at Full Moon for about 2 years now. Sushi bar. Great service, great recommendations from all at sushi bar, and Hector elevates the experience for any that come in - regulars or first timers. Affordable, quick, fun... cant beat it here. Ask to see Naomi's dance video. Classic.

The poke is a far cry with okay flavors and big portion of rice. The bento lunch dishes were not so bad, if they just went easy on the teriyaki sauce. The fish is fresh, the employees are pleasant and it was a nice change to venture off and try a new restaurant. I think we came during lunch hour so we had the specials for a good deal. Overall, the place is inviting and bright, but there was no wow factor in the food.

Cheap sushi, and in the greatest of ways- I'm not talking about the quality of the food but the bill. It is the best place to go for lunch because they always serve the sushi fresh and fast from the bar. I recommend the albacore garlic rolls, spicy tuna rolls with avocado on top, and the jalapeno roll. Their lunch specials are AWESOME. Under $10 and filling! The service is adequate if you sit at a table but not at all horrible. They are also right next to a Yogurtland so after lunch you can swing by there for a sweet treat to take back to work. Being on a budget, I like being able to eat one of my favorite cuisines and not break the bank- an extra plus for Full Moon Sushi.

  • Melissa P.

I'm usually here during lunch hours and I always order the full moon lunch specials. Beef Teriyaki the spicy tuna. The lunch specials are pretty affordable and worth the price. The sushi? so-so. I wouldn't order any of the "specialty" rolls, because there's nothing special about it. Lots of the rolls are filled with imitation crab meat and that is something I hate the most about sushi rolls. So its rare to come upon a sushi joint that actually makes super special rolls. Although all the shit talking about imitation crab, I do order the volcano roll, just because I like its spicy mayo with scallops. But they don't make it as good as they used to. Sometimes the rice can get dry and hard due to the baking of the roll. Meh. Anyway, the service and staff remains wonderful.

Full Moon just pales in comparison to all the other sushi places I've been to. This used to be my one and only go-to spot for sushi, but now thanks to Yelp, my taste buds have gotten spoiled rotten and Full Moon has become just a mere memory. Everything is average to below average. The service has gone downhill from the days when I used to be a regular here. It's still really slow even when the restaurant is completely empty. If you have nowhere else to go but here, then I guess you can order their crunch roll.

Super bummed, I'd been to the Full Moon sushi in Fountain Valley a few times, and the experience was never terrible, but this was pretty awful. I enjoy the food, which is why I've gone to Full Moon more than a few times, but this location was such a bummer. The servers are nice and friendly enough, but I dont know if they exactly know how to serve food? We were seated promptly, took our waiter forever to come take our order. Nothing came out for about 30 minutes, I've worked at restaurants and i understand things happen in the kitchen, so I wasn't really upset yet. but it is super tacky to bring out one person's food before the others. my boyfriend had his food for about 10 minutes before any of my food came out. and not only that but two tables who came in after us received their food before me and one of them ordered almost the exact same thing as me???? (poke) by the time i had food my boyfriend was done with his. they forgot to give us plates for soysauce and forgot siracha and the best part is they forgot my sushi completely hahaha. it took a different server to notice me trying to get our servers attention and when i said something they said we'll make it! but come on we were both done with the food we'd eaten i wasnt about to wait another 15 minutes. Super let down. I'm pretty lenient when it comes to restaurants because I understand things happen, but this was some of the worst service i've ever had. still tipped since the waiter seemed nice enough.

Full Moon Sushi.. oh how I (heart) thee.. except.. Costa Mesa Location.. why are you so new and not the same as the Fountain Valley location? Oh.. it must be the location layout or something.. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's missing a certain... "family" feel in the air. I will say that the food quality is exactly the same as the FV one, and that made me happy. The service is about the same too. I'd come back to this location if I was in the area and too lazy to drive the extra 2-3 miles (or whatever) to the FV location, but I prefer the FV one over this one. the only thing I can say about this location is that it's very Costa Mesa, and that isn't necessarily a good thing. :P

Awesome place! I love the people here and the food is great! Great prices and tasty too!!! The dining room is large enough to hold large groups, and, during the warmer days, you can even eat at their patio for even larger groups!

The prices here are definitely affordable. This location is never too crowded so you should be seated very quickly. I love the specials here because it's a combination of different foods. Even if you don't like sushi there are chicken and beef to choose from. They have a few special rolls that they only post up on the board that are pretty good. I've been here many times and will continue to do so. Recommendation: Salmon Sushi and Spicy Tuna combination special with chicken.

Our friends brought us her for din din on a friday night. It is one of their favorites, they know one of the chefs and they wanted to share the yummy goodness with us! The full moon role was super yummy! The middle is a bunch of sashimi and then deep fried. Really, how could you go wrong there? We also enjoyed the crunch roll, yellow tail jalapeno roll, tataki roll - with cajun tuna on top - hubby loved the flavor, me not so much! We also got some eel and toro. The toro was pretty bad and we sent the remaining pieces back - i'll give that it was close to 9pm, and they did remove it from our bill, so that was really nice service. The final bill was pretty reasonable for what we ordered and how full i felt! When we arrived they were so happy to see our friends that they forgot to get our drinks orders and give us menus. They all thought the other one had taken care of us! They apologized profusely, and luckily we had a ton of catching up to do, so didn't mind too much! When we arrived the bar was full so we got a table. We started with sapporro and some unfiltered saki. They deliver the saki to the table in a corona type bucket filled with ice. Very cool. All in all - good price, good service once they figure out you are there, and yummy sushi! But be aware - they do close early - 9:30!

This is a restaurant that my friends and I frequent quite often. It's a nice little Japanese restaurant that's also super affordable. The restaurant is located in a plaza with a little bit of everything. There's a Target, Wing Stop, Super Market, and a couple ice cream shop. It's a pretty convenient little area. There's a huge parking lot for the whole plaza so you typically won't have any problems finding a spot. The restaurants a little small, but it's roomy enough for you and your friends. Sometimes there's a wait, but this location is still relatively new, so it is not as bad as the Fountain Valley location. There's a sushi bar, regular dining tables, and a couple of tables outside on the patio as well. I usually get the same thing every time I go to Full Moon; a spicy poke bowl. It's a rice bowl that contains: sushi rice and poke (which is tuna, salmon, and a couple assorted fish), topped with Sriracha with ginger and wasabi on the side. You can get it without the Sriracha; but I like a little kick with my food! The poke here is always pretty fresh. Plus they aren't too shy with their portions. That alone can really fill you up! This one occasion, I decided to get a Hawaiian Roll as well, because all the Quick Tips really recommended it. Big mistake! Not that it wasn't good. I just didn't realize that it was poke on top of California Rolls. The California Rolls here are good at best. Nothing special. But having poke topping along with a poke bowl was way too much poke for me to handle. It was like poke! poke! poke! All night long! If you're looking for a nice lunch/dinner, I would really recommended this place. It's not somewhere you would take on a date if you were trying to impress them, but rather show them that you like the simple things in life.

Sushi was great (i think we liked the super dragon roll best). Wasn't terribly expensive. Best of all, the employees were awesome, they ran their asses off the entire time we were sitting there. We tipped em great. The food was great and they were hard workers. We'll be back

There is only 1 thing I'll ever order here, and this "thing" will keep me coming back for more and more. If I reviewed anything else it would drop down to 3 stars. This "thing" deserves 5 stars. So let's settle with 4 What I absolutely, positively, am in LOVE with is the..... Pikachu! ... The Poke Ball I mean Poke Bowl! (pronounced: Poke-eh?) For lunch I believe is right around $6 for a bowl full of rice and chopped up Tuna that's marinaded in "poke" sauce (Soy sauce, sesame oil, srirachi, chopped green onions, etc). and It's only a $1 more for dinner. You get a great portion of tuna as well as rice and it fills you right up. If you want save some money on sushi, this is your best bet. You will not be disappointed. Squirtle

This new Costa Mesa location is a breather from the over-crowded one in Fountain Valley. There's even outdoor seating at this one. At 8PM, there was only one other party there and the restaurant didn't fill during my stay. Service was well paced and we all got our food in a timely manner even though my pork cutlet bowl trailed the other dishes. The food is decent and nothing spectacular. I'd go here for the lunch specials if I'm looking for a quick filling bite (the specials are a dollar more during dinner).

This place felt like a "fast food sushi" place. Honestly, the sushi itself is good but is overpriced. I would recommend this place for a quick lunch but certainly not for a formal dinner. I tried the Hawaiian roll and it was delicious! But the salmon and tuna were certainly cut into too large of pieces and were too chewy. The service is decent. I had to get up to give our waiter the money but other than that, they are very attentive.

I like this Full Moon Sushi over the one in Tustin. The uni was fresh & melts in your mouth good. The sweet shrimp only came with 1 shrimp & a fried head, I expected 2 for the order. Poke salad was tastier than average Japanes restaurant poke. Service was friendly & the ambience was nice & not too loud.

Ive been going to Full Moon for over 5 years (the one in Fountain Valley). They opened up this one in Costa Mesa a couple years back. Not as popular so you don't have to wait if you come in on a weekend night. If you're looking for GOOD fish this is not the place to go. However, if you're looking for decent rolls etc at a cheap price then this is your spot. They recently made new menus that actually show you pictures of everything. They have about 10 different specialty rolls which are ALL worth trying! If youre not a big fish person i would try their crunch roll (#1 best seller) I always get the Hawaiian Roll - california rolls with poke (tuna) on top with their amazing poke sauce baked scallop - (not the roll, just "the baked scallop") - $3.50 and its basically a mini baked scallop roll Im giving this place a 3.5/5 stars because ive had better SUSHI/FISH at many other places. Service is bad.. takes forever to order drinks or drink them. and depending on what you order you might be done with your food while your friend hasnt even gotten theirs.

Worst PLACE EVET TO EAT! myself and two other co-workers got food poising from this place! They never throw out there fish and they try to hide it by adding so much sauce on top of the sushi! PLEASE STAY AWAY! we all submitted feed back to BBB.

cheap sushi, cheap rice bowls. Great service We stopped by while shopping and were very happy with the prices and quality. We tried the crunch roll and it was a little different in a good way. Other reviews recommend lunch specials so we might try that but we thought it was worth the money!!

Finally a decently yelped sushi place open in Costa Mesa/Irvine area that is open on a Saturday for lunch. I must have tried to go to three other yelped-about sushi bars that are closed until 5pm on a Saturday. What the what is up with that??? Anyways, after reading the reviews, I ordered the Hawaiian roll, which did not disappoint. Eight pieces of CA roll, topped with fresh Hawaiian poke (deliciously seasoned chopped raw tuna). I did not even need to dip my sushi in soy sauce or wasabi for this one. If I had stopped ordering here, I would have rated this place 5 stars. But I had to order another roll. And boy this roll brought my rating downnnn. The garlic albacore roll is a no-go. I thought it would be good... Garlic=good; albacore=good; but garlic albacore roll? Not so good. The fish was NOT FRESH. Bad bad news. It almost looked like they gave it a slight sear, just to hide the fact that the albacore was below-average. Also, the plum wine tastes JUST LIKE cough syrup. I mean, I can taste the plum-iness of the wine, but I mainly just taste cough syrup. In a nutshell... Order: multiple Hawaiian rolls Avoid: Garlic Albacore roll, Plum Wine

Costa Mesa has a shortage of good sushi restaurants but I think Full Moon is one of my favorites. Their fish is always fresh, reasonably priced and they provide quick service. I think my only criticism is that they don't have a large enough selection of rolls.

    (4)
  • Ashley D.

If it looks full or almost full, just leave. You're guaranteed to have average service, even when it's empty, and when it's full, the food is just bad. When I went, there was maybe one empty table, but the employees looked really panicked. My sushi was small and falling apart. Two things I appreciate, however, are 1. how the waitress came by often to refill water and 2. how the baked scallop for $3.5 actually had a substantial amount of scallop rather than just the one or two small previously frozen pieces I expected.

  • Hannah M.

I absolutely love this place, though all I've ever gotten are the California rolls. I go there at least once a week. The CA rolls are about $3.75 for 8 rolls and it takes less than 5 minutes for them to make them.

This place is way better than the one in Fountain Valley. It looks AND tastes better. In my opinion, their rolls seem better and bigger than the other one. I love their Healthy Full Moon roll! I rather get that than the rainbow roll. The workers are really nice!

Not a high end sushi place, but for sure a good place to go for some decent food at extremely reason price... me adn my gf went there for dinner, we ordered way more than enough for 2 people with a large bottle of sake. Total was just $30. Again, sushi is not 5 star quality, but at this price...it still makes u say WOW!

Love this place, have been going there for awhile. They have a cucumber special roll that is great. The other day I had the pleasure in eating the yellowtail belly, which was awesome, i must say. i'm always satisfied when i eat there. plus they don't rush you, so I can relax and enjoy a beer or 2.

i love this place. my wife and i love sushi, but we hate being broke. this is a great place to combine the two. they have excellent sushi without being over priced at all. very high grade fish and seafood product for their sushi bar. small restaurant with really really really nice employees and sushi chefs. this isn't "cheap" sushi. i think that implies bad quality. this is great quality sushi at an affordable price. they have chicken and beef and stuff for kids or adults at great prices as well. they make the best crunchy roll in town and their albacore is even fresh! cheers, matt

The combination plates are a lot of food for not much money. I was disappointed though when I saw the sushi I ordered taken from a tray of pre made california rolls. I have no idea how long that had been sitting there without refrigeration....

I'm a sushi fiend. I've eaten sushi all over the United States and Japan. There is no better value anywhere than Full Moon. It is the best for the money. Their signature Hawaiian Roll is incredible! The Poke Salad is great, but my favorite is the Lobster Handroll in Soy Paper... pure handheld heaven. The staff is friendly and the service great. This is the owner's second restaurant. His other restaurant is closer to my home but it is packed 7 nights a week. It's usually very easy to get a seat at this store.

I was very excited to see the location in Costa Mesa. The very first one is in Fountain valley. Their food is very fresh. They keep the restaurant nice and cold so that the Fish stays fresh. The staff is nothing but friendly here. Great place to go for good sushi!

It doesn't take an experienced sushi fan to bum out on this place. Sat down to a sticky dirty table. Handed sticky dirty menus. Decided to go simple since it was our first time there. Ordered some rolls, some tempura, baked mussels, some sort of soup. Food took forever which was strange since there wasn't a lot of people there. The tempura was extremely greasy. Inedible. Mediocre soup. Baked mussels ok. The rolls sucked. They were soggy, stale, and flavorless. Waitress never refilled my water glass and ran past me every time I tried to get her attention to get our check and get the fuck out of there. The prices were on the low side but sushi places like this really drive the "you get what you pay for" cliche home. I also have to comment on the amount of 4 and even 5 star reviews people are throwing out to this place. You're nuts. Save that shit for when you go to a place that blows your mind. Not just because its close and you eat there all the time. Barf. Oh yeah forgot to mention the guy busing tables with the big plastic bin dripping dirty dishwater everywhere. Barf times 2

Yummy sushi and doesn't break the bank! Love it! The fish is always fresh and the rolls are delicious. My favorite roll is the healthy full moon roll - try it! Full Moon sushi also has a patio, which you can't beat on balmy summer nights! Will go back again, and again, and again!

Full Moon is so delicious it makes me want to cry. Every time I go here i get so excited to order the Hawaiian Roll. Their poke is so fresh and delicious. The sushi chefs will go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect, leaving out ingredients, changing stuff up, extra sauce, you name it! The staff is so welcoming you can't help smile as everyone greets you when you walk through the door. They quickly get your drinks and salads (please order the green salad, the ginger dressing is spot on), while you decide which delicious roll you are going to try. Once the food hits you say a little prayer of thanks to the gods of sushi that you are at Full Moon. Try not to love them all as they thank you profusely for your business. And i double dare you to restrain yourself from yelling Arigato! back to them as you leave.

Came here for dinner with the kids on Friday night 1/7. Busy night. The place was packed. Even so, we waited very briefly for a table. Once seated, the waitress came to take our drink order. We asked for 4 waters, and husband started to ask for a large Sapporo, when she abruptly stopped him and said " I'll be right back, I'm very busy." Ok..... She came back about 10 minutes later with the water, we ordered the beer and food, and everything after was fairly decent. Pros: decent food, decent prices. Cons: a bit disorganized, need additional wait staff on busy nights.

Best Sushi I've ever had!! Great quality, freshly made and delicious :) The service is always amazing as well. Our favorite rolls are: volcano roll, albacore garlic, eel and avocado but I'm sure they are all yummy!

Service is TOPS. Seriously. Nan, you are the best server, and I'm glad they put you behind the sushi bar now too! I'll sit at the bar more if you're there :P As always, Full Moon is consistent with fresh, tasty sushi and rolls. I really like the fact that the crunch and spider rolls come out with the crab and shrimp still hot from being freshly fried. It just feels good in the mouth to know the seafood's not old.

The Poke bowl is the best thing here. The food is great, but when you have a large group they tend to forget a few orders until you remind them. Their Volcano roll is great and covered in spicy sauce and scallops. This restaurant is fantastic if you need to pop into Target, but get a sushi craving in the checkout. This place would be so much better if they were consistent with their service.

I eat here about once a week. It is very affordable and tasty. The service is always amazing. I have been to the other locations, but the Costa Mesa one is my fave. Go for the combo platters. They include soup, salad, and rice with your entrees.

Came here for lunch. Introduced my bf to the lunch menu (which is a GREAT deal!). Ordered chicken teriyaki with spicy tuna roll ($6.50!). You can get miso soup, beef, chicken or tempura and a spicy tuna roll/crunch/ca for $6.50/$8.50/$5.50. Great lunch specials here! I also ordered albacore, white fish, red snapper, and yellowtail sushi. All which came out great! except for the albacore which was falling apart before our eyes. :( The workers were nice. Greeted us. We sat ourselves. Ordered some iced green tea, but it never arrived. :( we ended up drinking h2o after he was like, i'll get you your "green tea". he brought out two waters instead. *shifty eyes??* has an outdoor area. So i could've brought my dog with me! Next time we'll be there with bebot! had a much better experience when i went with some other friends a month earlier! Don't know what to say. Maybe it was just this day that was bad. :/ please redeem yourself on round III Full Moon! TIl then!

I eat here as much as possible when it comes to getting sushi. Not only is it CHEAP but the staff is really nice and there's always places to sit! The sake is really good as well I would recommend the House Sake COLD. Albacore lover's roll is amazing, nice and garlicy and lots of albacore. They always have different rolls on their white board every day. The seaweed is a little cheaper version than other places I've been too, a little more papery rather than chewy, but I still enjoyed it. Beers are cheap as well. For two people WITH drinks it's about $50-$60 unless you are me and I can eat sushi all day long...then it would be more. The Salmon is AMAZING and they have cheap deals on some more exotic items such as UNI and Toro. Try the lobster sushi you will love it!!! I believe I've found my new favorite sushi place. Cheap and delicious, perfect combination.

I came here once previously with my beau and it was awesome. I'm not sure if I just had too fond of a memory, but when we came here again recently I just wasn't impressed. We got seated very quickly near the door. I normally wouldn't have a problem with this but the restaurant is so small that every time the door opens a chilly breeze flies in. We requested to move to the bar and they quickly and amicably met our request (always nice). The service was decent, nothing too crazy. Normally when I sit at a sushi bar I kind of expect some conversation or jokes from the sushi chef. He was very no-nonsense business-like. No conversation at all other than when he took our orders. It wasn't rude by any means, just not as openly friendly as I've come to expect. Due to the cold we each got hot tea. I don't know what it was, but this lacked so much flavor. It was pretty much just hot water. The food was pretty average. I got the jalapeno-yellowtail roll that I was in love with last time, and it was just kind of meh. Most of their rolls seem to be California rolls with special toppings (jal-yellow was California with yellowtail and slices of jalapeno on it). Beau loves the Hawaiian roll (CA roll with poke on top). It is tasty, by far the best roll we had here. I also got a scallop sushi, but it tasted kind of...off. It was a little warmer than I would have liked (not really a scallop connoisseur, so I'm not sure what the temperature is supposed to be, but this was nearly room temperature). I also got a couple of appetizers: Green muscles which were decent. Lobster hand roll, the lobster was VERY cold (it tasted like it was frozen and then thawed out recently) and lacked a lot of flavor due to the temperature. To end out the night we got a strawberry Mochi. They sliced it into lots of tiny bite-sized pieces, so that was tasty, but you can't really go wrong with store-bought, pre-packaged ice cream.

This place is okay. Went her w/ the BF at around 8:00 on Friday night. It wasn't very crowded, one other couple was at the sushi bar and two other tables were occupied. The roll menu was pretty simple...no super crazy rolls. There were some specials on the board. The basic sushi was pretty cheap, but pretty good. We had some tuna, salmon, and squid. The sushi chef went a little heavy on the hidden wasabi under the fish, but I liked it. We tried three rolls from the special board: the Hawaiian roll which I really liked, the Full Moon roll, which the BF really liked, and the garlic blue-fin roll which was okay. The service was a little slow on drinks and stuff, but other than that everything was fine. I don't know if we'll come back b/c there are other places just as close to home that we like better. Our bill, with 3 rolls, 4 orders of sushi and one soft drink came to $37. Pretty affordable.

IMMEDIATE PERMANENT DOWNGRADE TO ALL TIME LOW LIST*** As I stated previously--expect average--well not anymore. Just revisited and boy oh boy--these folks are looking for cheap street at the expense of their customers. F. U. FULL MOON! The Teriyaki Chicken here--rancid, soft, chewy--and served at a cool temperature--these no-pride having buffoons cannot even dish out the most simple, cheap combo any more--such a downhill slide. The crunch roll--NO! Try "MUSH FUCK Roll" I suggest they call it what it truly is. Cheap, mushy, soggy rice, cold flaccid shrimp tempura--all prepared/rolled by what must be an inbred imbecile who is using his schmegma-lined little wiener to roll with. YES--that horrible. The service is a joke. Something they used to really attempt to excel at. What happened? I keep asking myself this over and over again tonight......as if average is difficult to achieve..... Man. AVOID AT ALL COSTS and if you are considering giving this place a second chance--immediately drive to Mitsuwa, H-Mart, Waba Grill--or off the fucking pier--any of the above will feel better than paying for a meal at this fuck joint.

Went here a few weeks ago for the first time. It was good. Their spicy scallop hand roll was pretty good and so was the crunchy roll and the poke. We had some other roll that I can't remember what it was called but it was also good. Its not the best sushi I've ever had but I've definitely had worse. Much worse. This is the kind of decent place that I would frequent because you know what your going to get and its reasonably priced. Oh and they close at 9:00 PM on weekdays. Not knowing this I strolled in at 8:45 and and waited for the boy for like 10 minutes. They took that much better that most places will when someone goes in that late.

My friend showed me this place a while back & I've been going ever since. The prices are great (and I'm unemployed at the moment) & there's plenty of things on the menu to try. I've never been there on an off day & haven't met anyone who has, so I feel confident in saying they don't have any. Their Poke Bowl is amazing & so is the Spicy Tuna Roll. It's the perfect place to go with a group of any size. Good food. Amazing prices. What more do you want?

I first came here with co-workers and was suggested to order the Full Moon Special and its definitely lots of food for the $$. Its so much that I usually just eat the soup, salad and roll and take the rice and chicken home for a 2nd lunch. This is a good 2 meals in 1. Yesterday my girlfriend and I sat at the bar and ordered the volcano roll and Hawaiian roll and they were both BOMB!!! I was totally blown away. Keep in mind, I'm not a huge Sushi connoisseur and have slowly been learning about it so I have no idea if what I think is good - is really good. But I definitely think the Hawaiian roll and Volcano roll were d-e-e-e-e-licous! The service there is basic - they are quite and dont bother which is nice. I will def be coming back.

I've been going to Full Moon for cheap and good sushi and japanese food for years now. I started at the Fountain Valley location, but the Costa Mesa one has been more convenient to me lately. I must say, the Sesame Chicken was better before (either I got it on a bad day, or they changed the recipe. I haven't had it since the last time). The last time I was there I got the Pork Cutlet, Fried Tofu in ponzu, Spicy Tuna handroll, and some sushi. All things were delish and there were no disappointments. The Poke Salad is my fav. Everything else here is good too and I don't think I have to name off any more items, you're just gonna have to see for yourself. I'd highly recommend this place if your looking for a not-so-fancy casual sushi and japanese food spot that won't break your wallet, unless you order 30 bottles of Sake like Ivan L! ;)

My friends love this place, they come here often. As for me it was my frist time. One of my friends got different types of sushi. She got 2 orders. Unfortunately, they didn't fill her up. My other friend got the poke bowl. She loves it so much she always orders it when she comes here. I tried her bowl. It was pretty good. I got the teriaki chicken and tempura. I liked it. It came with salad, miso soup, bowl of rice, and tempura (shrimp, potato, veggies). All was good. Too bad they skimped out on the rice.

Quick service and fresh sushi. If you're on a quick lunch break just let them know and they will get you in and out in no time. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. I love how I have never waited to be seated at this place! They have great lunch specials for as low as $5.50! Don't let the size of this place fool you cuz they are GOOD!

i even called, ordered over the phone, told them i was coming in 5 min and they set up a table with my food ready! great for dates. great for those eating alone. great for families with kids. awesome for non-sushi eaters: chicken, beef, tempura lunch combos that come with a side of miso soup, rice, salad, fried veggies. awesome for non-raw-fish eaters: spider roll, super california, eel-cucumber (those are the easiest to stomach & are super tasty) awesome for raw-fish eaters: salmon handroll, tuna, spicy yellowtail. etc.

Terrible customer service. I have never wrote a review before, but this has to happen. I had a simple request for a sushi roll for my son (avocado roll) with no paper inside just as I get it at another sushi restaurant (Tokyo Cafe in orange) and they would not do it. I even offered to pay for it no matter how it turned out and they said no. Instead they made him little rice balls with a tiny sliver of avocado on top and charged $8 for 8 little pieces. My son didn't touch one of them and I would recommend going to a sushi bar in a grocery store over this place.

My boyfriend and I were nearby and I wanted sushi when I remembered this place. I've only been to the Fountain Valley location a couple times but that was years ago. I thought the food here was good and very affordable. I wanted to try a bit of everything so we got the Hawaiian roll, albacore garlic roll, tuna tataki roll, spicy scallop hand roll, and a lunch combo with teriyaki chicken and assorted tempura which came with miso soup, salad and rice. It all came to under $40 and we left very full and satisfied. I liked their poke sauce a lot. The fried garlic on top of the albacore roll was really good, but we both thought it needed a little more ponzu sauce so we asked for some. Our server was really nice and friendly and was quick to give refills and take away our plates. I would like to come back and try some of their specials; the albacore lovers roll sounds yummy!

Since moving to Orange County this is pretty much the only place we go for sushi and it's mostly because of the great prices! Every now and then I get a craving for plain udon and Full Moon is on speed dial for just such an occassion. Recommend it for those who want great priced sushi!

All their sushi rolls come with mayo, that's why they taste so good. And if your party is 6 or more, beware. They will try to have you double-tip them. They scribble the prices on a hand-written receipt and include tip in the total. However, when they give you the credit card slip to sign, they EXPECT you to fill it in. The guy who seemed to be the owner actually ran after us when we did not tip them again. "Ah, how come no tip?" "Because it's already included for party of 6 or more." "Huh?... Oh,... OK." If you like great sushi, atmosphere, service and would not mind the drive, check out "I Love Sushi" on Harbor in Costa Mesa. It will be worth your drive.

Best sushi around! Drive from Long Beach just to eat here at least once a week. Prices don't break your wallet, in fact its cheaper than going to any other sit-down restaurant. Have never had anything from Full Moon that hasn't made my mouth and stomach leave with a smile. We usually order: Volcano Roll - yum, yum, yum! bf likes to call it his dessert :) Crunchy Roll (spicy) - spicy meaning add soracha, makes the roll! Rainbow Roll - always refreshing Super California Roll - one thing i'm not the biggest fan of at Full Moon is the eel, it never is cooked quite right. but i always end up ordering it and finishing the entire thing. Shrimp Dumplings (fried or steamed) - both ways are good, prefer the steamed. fried seem to hide the flavor of the dumplings. Soft Shell Crab appetizer - not just one crab, they fill the basket with pieces of the soft shell crab. fried perfectly, so so so good! Albacore Sushi (w/ ponzu) - my must have! always satisfying and never fishy. with no roll over $10, this place is a must-try! but i'll warn you, its addicting!!

  • Funfloury N.

We ordered quite a bit of sushi and all were okay. Spicy tuna, Philadelphia, volcano, rainbow, spider, cucumber wrapped sushi, california, and crunch roll. We also ordered a chicken and beef teriyaki full moon dinner plates. I also ordered the tempura udon. Definitely didn't care for the udon. The tempura was quite oily and both the udon and the tempura didn't have much taste to it. I didn't taste the spiciness of the spicy tuna. Volcano and crunch rolls were good. For the price I guess it's kind of worth it. Would I go there again? There's too many sushi places to try to come back.

I love the sushi here. The service is still as bad as the first Full Moon but I like how this place is a bit more open and not crammed. The sushi seems to take a bit longer to be made than the other Full Moon. Beware if your hungry, expect your food to come out late.. very late...

This was the WORST sushi I have ever had! I would have much rather gone to Mitsuwa market and got the prepackaged stuff. DO NOT GO THERE. I couldn't even finish my order. I was really grossed out. If you have read my other reviews, you would know that my better half eats crazy food all the time and he likes to eat the parts that I throw away and the parts that gets ground up in to pet food. He ordered the Udon and told me to not eat the chicken cause it was the "bad parts of bad chicken!" NASTY, even he wouldn't eat it... How do you think I felt? I have never seen him not finish a meal, no matter how nasty it gets sometimes... He didn't finish his Udon and I didn't finish the sushi. Nothing was good E X C E P T the table service. Our waitress was adorable, so we tipped her the proper amount. She didn't make the terrible food. Question is... do you leave a good tip for the service or the quality of food? We tipped ONLY for the service. DO NOT EAT HERE, IT'S DISGUSTING!!!!

    (1)
  • Thanh P.

I think the foods here is ok..... its a good fix for when you crave sushi but nothing here amazes me or is even memorable. Its just good basic nicely prepared sushi. The prices are good, fish is fresh..... I do however see alot of people ordering combo rice dishes which I never do but that seems to be popular here. Not to sound like a snob but I'm just basing my review on strictly sashimi's and rolls.

Full Moon is a great place to fulfill your sushi cravings without burning a hole in your wallet! :) I get the lunch combo, it includes miso soup, mixed tempura, salad and a crunchy roll for less than $10! It is definitely filling and worth it. The atmosphere is simple and I like that. It does not try to be one of those hip sushi joints, it is just a simple affordable neighborhood place to enjoy yummy sushi.

  • Kym C.

I love Full Moon, both the original location and this one. This one is nice on a Friday or Saturday night it isn't as crowded as the other location, you can usually immediately sit down. I have never been unhappy with anything I have ordered. I love their Poke!!! Wether it be the appetizer or the salad delicious! I love seeing the chef's from the original location here and the fact that it is still kind of unknown so is rarely crowded. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

  • Kelly T.

The rolls here are great - particularly the Healthy Full Moon roll. The prices SEEM good, but the reality is that the rolls are pretty small and I usually need to order 2 which adds up. I think the best value here for lunch is the poke bowl which is about 7 bucks and it is non-stop poke action. While I find their portions to be measly in other areas, the poke bowl has so much tuna in it that it's almost too much tuna, and it's very good. The only bummer is that the sodas are cans :)

    (4)
  • Jesse D.

Pretty average in the sushi taste department... not to say that is is bad at all... The great thing about it was the price. A rainbow roll was $7.95. I will return here for the promptness of service and the price!

pretty good sushi and a super friendly staff! I came here on NYE and my friends and I consumed about 30 bottles of Sake....it was insane! The only downfall is that the location literally has 2 sushi spots within about 150 ft.... But I'd come here before any other place. if you in the area and have a craving for some raw fish definately check this place out!

  • Scotty L.

My girlfriend and I checked out Full Moon a few weekends ago and it was pretty good. The service was great, the rolls were fresh and we left happy. Our favorite rolls were the Healthy Roll and the Crunchy Roll. I came back later this week and ordered just one roll, they advised they have advised me they had a $10 minimum on credit cards. They didn't charge me $10, but they did round up my roll from $7.50 to $8.00. Whatever. Just FYI to anyone who doesn't carry cash much these days like myself.

Their service could be a lot better. It always takes a century and a half for the servers to come back with your drink! Refills? Forget it! The only reason why I come here is because my friend got me addicted to the Healthy Roll and poke appetizer! The fish is fresh and prepped simply so that you can taste the fish instead of it being muddled down by all these spices and sauces! The Healthy Roll is one of my favorite sushi rolls of all time! Try it, you won't regret it!

I love full moon! I always come here to eat! The food is super good and cheap. My only complaint is when i was walking out the restaurant the lady that worked there asked me why i didnt leave a tip. She was asking me if the service was bad or why i didnt leave a tip. I was very shocked and i didnt know i had to leave a tip. It was very awkward and it was not necessary for her to follow me out of the restaurant.

3 stars and 1/2 to be exact. It's not the best sushi ever and the menu is typical. But it's good for the money's worth- typical yet quite tasty. I recommend Spider roll (deep fried soft shell crab sushi roll).

  • Kelli O.

Sushi was good, and fairly priced. However, service was just ok... I was surprised service wasn't as good since there was barely anyone in there. The cleanliness was lacking. Maybe it was just a slow night for them so they weren't putting much effort into it? I waited for a good 5 minutes until I had to wave a server over just to get a menu. For a sushi fix, it's decent. But for a nice dinner... I'm not too sure.

Neighborhood gem. This place offers the best bang for my buck when it comes to quality sushi offerings. Poke salad is packed with fresh and tasty fish. The cut rolls and hand rolls are decent. On par with offerings at other places. I come here mainly for the poke salad and sashimi. Other important info: ample parking, located behind Kinokuniya store, and service is a little on slow side.

This is a small but cozy sushi restaurant! It's affordable and the service is good. Really good for those Japanese sushi eaters :) It's located right off the 405 and Harbor Bl, in the back of the Target shopping plaza. I would recommend the combination plates, as it comes with salad, miso soup and rice. The salmon is good too!

  • Irene T.

Place is pretty small. We could hear the people on the other side of the restaurant laughing and talking, and their party consisted of 2 people. They don't have a very big menu, but they have Full Moon Dinner specials which consist of rice, soup, salad, and then you get your choice of chicken/beef teriyaki, sashimi and tempura, sushi and sashimi, or sushi and tempura. Pretty filling. Rolls weren't wrapped that great, my spicy tuna rolls were falling apart, but overall pretty fresh and appetizing!

the first time i came here,a middle-aged japanese woman greeted us really nicely. the food was ....kinda OK. the price is reasonable..thumbs up HOWEVER, the second time i came in, i did not want to pay a penny for tips. the chicken tereyaki bowl was....OK (again) me and my friend wanted ask for the menu to look for some dessert. we said" excuse me!" that tall girl said yes and suddenly came over and threw the check on our table i was like ..... WTH?????????? i havent finish my drink, my chicken bowl, duhhhhh? she wanted to us to get out of here? it really pissed me offfffff and......mochi is the only dessert there,....duh i had an order of ikura. honestly, it was not at fresh as i expected (2nd try, i did give them another chance ..but whatever!) so thats the reason why my 2nd time would also be my last time there! BYEEEEEEEEE

This place is great! Great sushi for an even greater price. The sushi chef was friendly and funny! At one point, he was the only one there and the establishment was getting full. He was able to get the orders out in an instant and still give us individual attention to make sure we were taken care of! I loved, loved, loved the baked scallops. Incredible! The hand rolls were amazing, as well as the nigiri! A definite go-backer again and again!

I usually come here with some friends for a group outing when we feel like Japanese, but don't want to spend too much. You can easily get a combo meal for under $10. It includes 8 pieces of rolls (spicy tuna, california, or crunchy), salad, miso soup, rice, and your choice of either chicken teriyaki or tempura). I usually get the spicy tuna combo. They also have udon and other dishes, but so far I've only tried the combos. Oh, and the crunchy roll combo was pretty good too. Overall it fills you up pretty nicely, but it's not the best sushi on earth or anything. I guess that's what you get for the price. It's a good place to come for lunch, but for dinner, be ready to wait if you arrive around 6-7ish. The tables are pretty cramped together, so if you're claustrophic, this won't be a good place for you. Other than that, the price you pay for what you get is pretty decent.

I used to come here pretty often a few years ago because one of my friends really loved this place. I can't explain why but i never really liked this place and when said friend left to study abroad I just stopped coming altogether. Well he came back recently and of course we had to check out full moon and I must say I was quite surprised. In the three years that I've been gone I don't think they've raised their prices very much and their sushi was excellent, especially for their price. Walking in I had my heart set on some uni and on the menu I saw that it was only 3.50. I was skeptical at first because uni at 3.50 just can't be that good. But of course as usual I was wrong and the uni was great. It was a nice and bright yellow and even though there were some, for lack of a better word, breakage(?) it was clean, sweet and silky. I ordered some other stuff on the sushi menu and they were all good, especially for the price. If you are walking in for sushi make sure to ask the waiter or the sushi chef for recommendations. They really do know what they are talking about and you will be satisfied.

Pretty good sushi, I mainly go hear before a movie, purely on price, and im a fan of their specials... all in all its pretty good and close proximity to many activities int he area so plus for the location, and such minus for the wait on sushi and relative sparse atmosphere of the interior design

Our favorite authentic Japanese sushi restaurant, we were so glad to find out they had expanded to a secondary location in Costa Mesa. The sushi/beer/sake/staff are always great, by far the best sushi restaurant around. Kampai to Charlie, Miso and the rest!

This is a good place to find cheap sushi. My bff and i usually go here and ordered the full moon special, which is a good deal. The service is excellent. Food get serve shortly, so not a long wait.

Great food, great prices!! Nice and friendly staff. California roll and Philadelphia roll were under $5 and crunch roll was $6.50. I think this place should only have one dollar sign in the price description.

At least once a week my colleagues and I eat here - we are big fans of the Poke Bowl! The fish is fresh and the price is more than affordable. The service here is generally on top of things and for sure, the sushi chefs are always very friendly. Sometimes we have to get up and go to the register to get our bill, but when two people are eating fresh fish with rice and side of soup, and the bill is less than $15, it's hard to complain.
